Reborn

Chapter 1

The stuffy air of the bus suffocates me as we turn into the parking of Sacramento High School, my absolute favorite place on earth.

My hands start to shake as I get up off my seat and start walking down the small isle, my small social anxiety breaking through the walls I put up. I see the tiny droplets of rain start to scatter across the windows, their little bodies dancing across the windows.

Anxiety about this dreadful place and bone crushing sadness over my mother rush through me as I think of the long day ahead.

Clenching my hand, I swallow and take a deep breath.

As I get into class I can hear the rain pattering against the windows and roof, and the cold atmosphere in the room just makes me want to leave even more. "Alesia! Hey! How come you didn't walk to school today?" Connor drifts into the seat next to me, taking out an earbud.

I sigh and look down just giving him a small smile and looking down, and i feel a pang of guilt rush through me.

Few Hours Later

My phone starts to buzz in my pocket second to last period. I can feel it vibrating nonstop.

Buzz.

Buzz.

Buzz.

It stops and I let out an annoyed breath. Nobody ever calls me in the middle of school anymore.

The phone starts to buzz again and cursing under my breath I yank it out, the teacher giving me a look from the front of the classroom.

I click answer and bring it up to my ear. "Lesia!" My sister's sobs come through the phone."Mavie, why the crap are you calling me in school?" She lets out another sob. "Mavis!" I yell.

I can hear the teacher motioning at me and saying something so I grab my backpack and walk out the door, practically running through the halls.

"Mavis why are you calling me? It better be something good because-"

"It's mom" she sobs.

I can feel my chest squeeze as my heart pitter-patters in my chest like a bird in a cage, and tears prickle my eyes as I rush out and start my car, the heavy downpour soaking me as I jump in and rush to the hospital.
