"Ohh, and we may fall in love a little, and break our hearts a little. But we'll always have that sweet winter night, watching the stars, and falling in love, again and again. But dear, please remember... I'm fragile..."
- Fragile Heart - Hayden Locke

It was autumn, Hayden's favorite season.
When the leaves turn from vibrant greens to burnt reds, oranges, and fiery yellows. When you can feel the weather changing, and people start panicking about Christmas presents.
But the best bit? Night time.
It was the right season for Astronomy. Just lying back, and seeing one of the world's wonders. Stars were always a gateway to escaping her crazy life, and just being able to breathe.
Taking one last look at the purple and red sky, Hayden closed her curtains and turned to her best friend, Liam Parker, who currently sat on Hayden's bed with a faraway look in his brown eyes.
Okay, so maybe he wasn't the kind of best friend that you've known for years but he was the first person to welcome her to Dexter High three months ago. Raising an eyebrow, Hayden settled herself next to him. "Liam?" she called quietly. The brunette didn't look up. "Liam?"
Hayden raised her voice slightly. "LeLe?"
Liam snapped out of his daze. "Huh?" he said. Hayden smiled, "You're distracted." she stated. Liam frowned then sighed, and then gave a silly grin, "Annalise looked at me today," he said, as though he were talking about the most breathtaking thing in the world.
Hayden rested a hand on her friends shoulder. "Oh, Liam," she sighed, not wanting to let her friend's heart get broken, "you know she's with Joe."
Liam scowled, but nodded, "Yeah." he mumbled.
Glancing at her friends face, Hayden hugged Liam, "There are plenty more cat's in the sea," Liam muttered, causing Hayden to giggle.
"Fish." she corrected, "And plenty of single ones."
Liam pulled away from the hug, and stood, "I have to go," he said. "Mom said I need to be home by six." he added, glancing at Hayden's battered red clock that read 5:36.
Hayden frowned upon realizing her friend could get into trouble because of her. "Tell your Mum I said sorry for keeping you here so late." she said as she stood and pushed her hair out of her eyes.
Liam smiled and gave her a one arm hug, "Thanks Dennie, I'll pick you up tomorrow," he grinned, before leaving her bedroom.
The sound of the front door closing echoed through the still, half decorated house. There was a small silence, before Cassandra Locke poked her head in her niece’s bedroom door. "Liam’s gone?" she asked.
Hayden nodded and Cassandra smiled sadly, "Your mother called," she said carefully, causing Hayden to roll her eyes.
"I know," she replied, "I'll call her later, okay?"
Cassie frowned, but nodded anyway, "Okay. Night, Hayden." and then she left.
Settling back onto her bed, Hayden frowned. Her parents had been ringing her all day, pressuring her into looking at the college applications they'd sent her.
Although Hayden was desperate to look at them for her parents, she knew that they'd sent applications for places like Oxford, so she was closer to home.
Julliard is what she wanted, but Elizabeth and Karl Locke were adamant that Julliard was for 'stuck up kids, who have no real talent'. So that just meant faking another smile and telling them that she'd apply ASAP.
Suddenly, the sound of 'Star Girl' played throughout her quiet room. With a sigh, Hayden flipped her mobile open and glanced at the caller ID.
MUM (The witch of the west), the phone read.
Hayden switched the phone off instead of answering.
She was still finding it hard fitting into America and with her parents calling every other second to check up on her? That wasn't going to help. She missed her bedroom and 'friends' still. But Liam had made her feel comfortable, explaining the school rules and the right people to hang around with (She was with the 'freaks'.)
Flopping back onto her pillows, Hayden clicked her fingers causing the bedroom lights to flick off, a courtesy of living with her Aunt Cassie who was also her math teacher.
Staring absent mindedly up at the glow-in-the-dark stars on her ceiling, she started humming 'Fragile Heart,' a song she'd written for her Aunt when she had gone through a messy break-up.
“My fragile heart... is gone...”
