Katherine was spoiled to say the least. From the moment she'd been born she was praised. Everyone of her siblings and their husbands and children had been their for the birth of their new sister or aunt.
"Katherine, I think I'm going to call her Katherine." Katie grinned at the baby in her arms, her husband leaning over her to see. "Katherine Ethel Pulitzer."
Being 18 years younger than her next oldest sibling, Katherine was kind of a loner. But that was okay because she made her own friends to play with, and by the time she was six years old Katherine was squealing her way down every long hallway she could find. Never touching a single doll, never keeping her dress clean, just running around, and climbing. Wow could that girl climb!
In fact, one day Katie found the happy little girl high in the tree in the back yard bouncing on a branch percautiously. Katie screamed and took her down scolding her to never do that again.
Well that made Katherine mad. She didn't like being told what to do, so instead she ran into her fathers office with tears streaming down her face. She promptly climbed up his large plush chair and sat in his lap hugging him around the neck until she fell asleep.
"This kid has more energy then any other the other kids combined." Katie said as she came into the office. "I'm getting to old for this Joseph."
Pulitzer smiled slightly, breaking his trance for work he'd been accomplishing to pat his daughter on the back. Despite being a rather hard man, Katherine made him smile. A feat even his wife could hardly achieve.
There was another occurrence when Katherine had been caught jumping on her bed did Katie scold her and she ran into her fathers office with tears in her eyes.
"D-Daddy! She's so mean to me!" She cried tugging on his pant leg because he was now standing up in front of the fire place for warmth.
Pulitzer sighed and rubbed his temples, something he'd been doing more frequently the older he got.
"Katherine." Pulitzer said sternly, clasping his hands behind her back and looking down at her, her brown curls a mess, her pink dress ripped at the bottom, and dirt covering her hands. "Are you a big girl?"
Katherine stopped crying suddenly and stood up straighter lifting her chin up. "Yes."
A smile flickered across the man's features. "Good. Now no more crying. I want to show you something." He said taking her small hand in his and leading her over to his desk. The moment he sat down Katherine climbed into his lap, soiling his gold tie with her dirty hands.
"What?" She asked sharply pressing her hands against his cheeks sternly. Almost like she was scolding him for not telling her fast enough.
He laughed slightly and turned her around and sat her down on his lap, he reached into one of the drawers and pulled out an old dusty type writer. He didn't even have time to set it on the desk before Katherine began pushing every key she could reach.
Tap, tap, tap, tap, zing!
Katherine screeched with happiness at the action.
"You are so spoiled child." Pulitzer said shaking his head. "Non of my other children were allowed to play outside, or climb trees, or squeal."
As soon as he said it Katherine squealed again in happiness and pressed more and more keys.
"But I am proud of you." He informed her even though she wasn't listening. "You will be a great woman someday I just know it."
Okay, now he was done being sentimental and pulled Katherine off his lap along with the type writer and left her to play as he immersed himself with work again.
Despite what Pulitzer might of wanted...
Katherine was a daddy's girl.
