"I was, actually," I said whilst nodding. She clapped her hands once and gave a hefty "Great!" She reached into her backpack and pulled out a pen and a journal and opened the journal to the first page.

"So? What is it?"

"Before I die, I want to have a girlfriend."

She looked at me like I was an idiot.

"Seriously? No, wait. The more fitting question is: you've never had a girlfriend?!"

I blinked a couple times at her outburst. "Is that bad?"

She smiled at me. "It's not bad, it's just that I figured that the captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school would've at least had one girlfriend."

My defenses flew up and my brows knitted together. "Well, I just haven't found the one thats worth all the trouble. Have you ever had a boyfriend?" I turned the tables onto her.

I was kinda curious. Surely someone as pretty as her has had a boyfriend before.

"I have." For some reason, her response kinda made my heart sink. "But he broke up with me when I told him I was going blind."

My eye twitched. "He dumped you because of something that was out of your control?!"

Hearing that made me angry. What kind of person would do that?! That was partly the reason why I don't have a girlfriend. Sure, I could get one if I wanted to. Girls at school practically throw themselves at me. But if they find out that I'm going to die soon, I'll either end up hurting them or they'll end up hurting me.

"What a douche. What was his name?"

"Jack."

"Well, I'm sorry to say Luce, but with a d-bag name like Jack, you should've seen it coming. But then again, he should be prepared for a hit man to try to kill him."

She laughed at me. "Yeah, like I haven't tried that already."

My eyes widened and my face paled. "Wait, you've actually tried to kill him?!"

"No! I was kidding! What, do you think I'm crazy?"

I gave her a level look. How can she  think she's not out of her mind after all the things she did this week?

She seemed to notice my look and process what it meant. "You know what, never mind. Don't answer that."

A lull sort of came over us, and we were left to deal with our thoughts. Until Lucy broke the silence.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"How many people know about, you know," she trailed off and she squinted her eyes shut while sticking her tongue out and ran her thumb across her throat. So she was talking about me dying.
