I laughed. "Connor!", I heard Vi call, it echoed. "Uh-oh," He murmured, "I spoke to soon." I smiled. "In here.", he called back. "She's awake!", Vi called excitedly. I don't doubt that she was running.

He shot me an apologetic look, "I'll try to control her the best that I can." I nodded and turned quickly when I heard her run into the room. Unlike Connor she was wearing a weird leather suit that covered most of her, and she had some sort of lizard on her shoulder.

"Dragon.", Lazuli corrected me mentally. Vi started running towards me. She fell to her knees and crashed into me, giving me a tight hug.

I cried out and Lazuli roared before Connor could pull her off of me. Connor shoved her away from me. She looked startled.

"Vi, you idiot! What did I tell you!", Connor shouted at her. She looked confusedly at me. I had my hand over my mouth, trying to control myself and there were tears on my cheeks.

Her eyes widened, "But I didn't touch her leg!" Connor shook his head and ran his hand through his hair. "You're smart enough to know that dragons aren't used to humans at first.", He growled, "You were just being stupid."

She gasped and looked down at her hands, which had my blood on them. She shook her head and looked up at me, "Maria, I'm so sorry. I forgot and I was excited, and... I was stupid. Please forgive me."

Connor sat next to me again, "You don't have to do anything Maria." I took a deep breath and wiped my cheeks with the back of my hand. "No it's okay Vi. I'm fine.", I said softly, trying to hide the way my voice shook.

She smiled at me, "Thank you! I won't do it again I promise!" The little dragon on her shoulder crawled quickly over to me. I looked down at it as it crawled onto my leg and looked up at me.

"Hi.", I said awkwardly to it when it just sat there. "That's Pistachio," Vi laughed, "He's my dragon's son." Pistachio leaped up onto my shoulder, making me flinch, and started cuddling into my neck.

"Oh, congratulations, I think.", I said awkwardly, distracted by Pistachio. Connor laughed and held his hand out to Pistachio.

He made a sound and jumped into Connor's hand. "Not right now Vi. I was actually trying to get her heart-rate down.", He said, setting Pistachio on the ground. "Oh, I'm not much help then am I?", She said, sitting on my other side.

Pistachio crawled into her lap and she stroked him subconsciously, lost in thought. "So," She said suddenly, "How are you taking the news?" I blinked and looked at her.

I took a breath and held it until I remembered her question. "Still in shock, I think.", I said, finally. She nodded, "Yeah. We were like that too."

'We?' "You and your dragon?", I asked stupidly, trying to understand her choice of words. She laughed and Connor smiled. "No!", She chuckled, "Connor and I! Believe it or not, our dragons have known us since birth."

Her voice grew thoughtful and she looked down at Pistachio, "They spend all of our lives waiting for us to be ready."

Lazuli shifted her weight closer to me. "It's true." , She thought softly. "Wow.", I said softly. A few moments passed. "Does everyone have a dragon, and they just don't know it?", I asked suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence.

"No, we are special people. We call ourselves Daylights." Vi explained. "But you are even more special than us," Connor said softly, "You're called a Black Daylight."

"Why?", I asked. Connor looked at Vi silently, communicating with their eyes. Connor finally looked at me. "Come with us. We have something to show you." I nodded and he hesitated.

"We're gon'na have to fly there though.", He said grinning. I stared at him blankly, "We? As in I have to fly?" He nodded and laughed at my expression. "You know what," I said when they both stood, "I'll think I'll stay here. You go ahead without me."

They both laughed, and Connor pulled me up by me hand. I winced and balanced on one of my feet. He smiled and gestured to Lazuli, "You should be able to ride her bare back for a while. Where we're going is not very far."

"How do I-", I trailed off as I looked up at her back. Connor lifted me by my waist onto her leg. He released me as I balanced myself on her side. She raised her leg until I could get onto her back.

I carefully swung my leg over and wrapped my arms around her neck. Connor patted her side, "Just let her do the work. She knows what to do." I nodded as he turned and jogged into the corridor.  I cried out and hugged her neck tightly when she suddenly moved.

I heard her chuckle mentally. Just hold on tight. I'll try to be gentle, but if I forget you must tell me. She thought as we walked smoothly down the hallway. It was just big enough for her to walk through with her head slightly lowered.
