Will
I walked up the long stone path that led to Nico's cabin, trying not to trip over myself in the dark. As I got close to the front porch, I saw Nico lying out on a big dark blanket.
"What're you doing?" I asked cheerfully.
"Gods, Will! You scared the shit out of me. Also, your hair kinda glows in the dark it's so blonde," Nico turned his face indignantly towards me. I decided not to acknowledge the comment about my hair.
"What are you doing out here? It's past curfew," I asked, not phased by his attitude.
"Says the person who walked across camp past curfew to come here," he pointed out, glaring.
"Eh," I shrugged. "So, why are you lying out here?"
"I'm...watching stars," Nico replied, almost guarded.
I chuckled. "Nico Di Angelo? Mr. Death and Darkness watching the stars?"
He glared. I dropped my attitude and looked at him apologetically. He just shrugged.
"I like the stars and the night. They're mysterious and breathtaking, and they make you think," Nico turned away while saying this, like he didn't want to connect with me and be vulnerable at the same time. I had never seen this side of Nico before. It was almost like he took off the mask he wore. He had a sense of wonder almost. I felt sorry for making fun of him now. I sat next to him on the blanket and scooted close to him.
"That's honestly really cool, Nico," I bumped his shoulder with mine. He looked a bit taken aback. I wonder, what was going on in that boy's head? He looked at me, his jet black hair falling over his eyes, and opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, then closed it again.
"It, well, I guess it also reminds me of Italy," he mumbled quietly. I put my arm on his shoulder, trying to urge him to go on, but he shoved it off and scooted away. He looked at me with pain in his eyes before turning his face away towards the trees.
"In the summer, we always used to have these dinners where we would have a big picnic in our backyard, just me, my mom, and Bianca. Then we would lie out under the stars until we fell asleep, and Mom would teach us about the constellations," Nico murmured sadly to the trees.
I put my hand on his shoulder, and he jumped, but didn't pull away. We sat like that for a while, and I saw big silver tears run down his face. I slowly scooted closer and wrapped him up in a hug.
"Do you want to watch the stars?" I asked him. He turned to look at me and smiled.
"Okay Sunshine," he said happily and we both lay down under a dead of silver twinkling lights.
"Look Solace, a shooting star!" Nico said a while later, nudging me. I gasped as it shone overhead, a fiery tail following it.
"Make a wish," Nico said.
"Already have," I half-whispered.
"What was it?" He murmured, interested.
"I can't tell you don't you know? Then my wish won't come true," I could practically hear him rolling his eyes at that one. But nope, he was not getting to know what I had wished for. Nico shifted on the blanket, pulling me out of my thoughts, and closed his eyes, his dark shaggy hair falling against his forehead. I shifted closer to him and my eyes started to drift closed too.
