Chase POV
***
I pressed the emergency button on the elevator and I lost my balance as it stopped suddenly, in between floors. I got back up and took out my tablet, scrambling to turn on the bug as I spyed on Mr. Davenport, trying to find out what happened to me.
I wasn't trying to betray his trust and eavesdrop but with everything going on, I need answers. And since he won't give me the answers straight, I'd just have to get them another way.
I could see the lab, and Mr. Davenport's shoulder as the bug activated. I put in the earpiece and winced as I heard all the static, quickly turning the volume down. Since this wasn't an actual model it was just a prototype, I'd have to deal with the slight problems.
"D... las..." I heard, the static interrupting the words. I threw my head back in exasperation but shuffled to the door of the elevator, leaning against it hoping to get a clearer signal.
"Chase..." I heard, sparking my attention. I moved around to hear better but the static only got stronger. "Two... ago... he had a... but long... period where... unconscious... like a... burst... pain. What... ed?"
I cursed under my breath as I tried to put the pieces together. He might've meant that two days ago, I had a long period where I was unconscious like a burst of pain and he was talking to someone about it. But why wouldn't he talk to me instead of some stranger?
My thoughts were interrupted when the static suddenly started to clear up and the next two words were clear. "The antidote!" He said, the static returning. The camera started flying out of control and it hit the floor with a quiet smack, making the tablet screen turn black, meaning it was broken.
"No!" I said, smashing my fist against the screen in exasperation. I was so close to finding out what Mr. Davenport was talking out, when the bug crashes and burns, literally.
My fist began to throb and I took a piece of fabric from my pocket and I wrapped my hand up as best I could, sliding down the wall and sitting by the door. I used my bionic eye to do an X-ray of my hand but it didn't look too bad. It said it was just a fractured bone, and my fist had a bit of dried blood on it, and the skin was red, almost purple.
I burried my face in my knees as I hugged my legs to my body. Why was Mr. Davenport keeping this to himself? Why can't he just tell me why he was being so secretive, with my injury and all? This seemed like a serious matter, yet he was acting like a child.
I felt a warm tear slide down my cheek and I quickly wiped it, blinking back tears. I felt a sharp pain in my left shoulder and I scrunched my face up in pain, the searing pain beginning to make my arm spas.
My arm jerked the tablet out of my grasp and it hit the opposing wall of the elevator with a quiet thud. I held my arm as I hastilly crawled over to it, grabbing it as I felt the elevator moving down.
I quickly stood up and held the tablet behind me, trying to ignore the pain, as the doors opened to reveal an ecstatic and happy Mr. Davenport, who practically floated into the elevator.
The giant idiotic grin spread on his face was contagious, so I couldn't help but become overpowered as a small grin formed on my face, the pain whitening my face, as sweat beaded on my forehead.
"Why are you so happy?" I managed, trying to hide my discomfort as I distracted myself by talking to Mr. Davenport. He seemed a little nervous answering but he was quick to reply.
"Well, I, uh, my coworkers at Davenport Industries are throwing me a sixteen year anniversary party tonight." He answered, smiling wider (if possible) making my heart sink. Liar. "So, I'll be gone tonight. But, I'll have Eddie watch you kids."
