Imagine a world where it can’t be controlled by humans, but can provide for us all. When there’s snow there is a hot spring awaiting those who are cold. No human rules the world. We are all equal, and those who do bad, perish with pain in despair, Karma. That world is the world in which I was born into, and we call it Labyrinth.
“Bliss!” a small girl called out running towards me. She was 3’7, age 6; she had dark olive skin with stunning chrome green eyes. She also lives among the Arbor; it’s a tribe that lives on treetops, 20 miles from where I live.
“Cyan!” I lift her up embracing her tightly. “What are you doing here? It’s Sunset! You’re brother must be worried!”
“He said it was alright to come visit you!” She stepped back and pulled out a tiny box. “It’s your 13th birthday when Adze rises... I can’t be out when he rises... Kai says I need to be home or somewhere safe before Adze rises...”
“Kai has a point but Cyan you might not make it anywhere safe!” I grab her shoulders and looked deep into her eyes “Everyone knows well enough there is no shelter where I live!” My eyes widen in realization, “Cyan... Did you lie to Kai!? He would have NEVER let you go this far especially on this horrible day!!!” She looked away and bit her lower lip. “CYAN!!” I took her hand and ran, to the nearest place I know and even then there is a possibility I wouldn’t make it.
“Bliss, the box!!!” She let go of my hand and ran back picking up the box. She ran back to me and handed me the box, “It’s yours, keep it, don’t ever lose it!” and we ran.
“Cyan! Hop onto my back! We can’t make it like this!!!” I looked at her and she nodded quickly jumping onto my back wrapping her arms around my neck. “Cyan, you do know what would happen if Adze rises before we find you a place to take cover right?!” She nodded slowly, “Cyan... Don’t lie to me, NOT NOW!!!” She sighed and shook her head. “Cyan... it’s a legend... one every living Half on Labyrinth must know...” and I began to tell her the story.
Thousands of years ago a weird creature landed on Labyrinth they called themselves humans. They tried killing us off, and they wanted to take over. Humans are the ones that gave us the new language. We never had a language, we just knew what we wanted and needed, but this human language was forced upon us. Since our world was too strong for them to control, the humans decided to control our culture. After a few hundred years they took our female species and mated or married them, so they have created half humans and half Gargoyles (Gargoyles is our given species names). Slowly the purebred humans were killed off once every year, only when a blood red moon rose at night. The humans called it Adze; another legendary name. When this moon rises strange creatures would appear and suck the human’s blood dry. - It’s been said that the purebred Gargoyles were these strange creatures and any, if not all, purebred would black out and be controlled by Adze.- Then one day there were no more humans, only half bloods, and there for little by little the purebred Gargoyles killed among themselves when Adze rose the following years. A few hundreds of years ago there was one last pure bred alive she was beautiful; short-straight bright red hair, shimmering teal eyes, pale stone gray skin and large dark gray wings; she was the last that flew. She lived among the half’s for many years until one day Adze took over her. She killed over 5,000 half’s in less than a night. When Adze set for the year she realized what she has done, and how dangerous she was so she killed herself the next day...“it’s been said her last words were: I've been given a vision, and you are not to kill the next and last purebred Gargoyle who will be born in the next few hundred years. She will appear to look like you half’s but she will have a blood so pure Adze will be her overlord. She will not be you’re enemy, but your salvation.” Cyan finishes off with a slight giggle.
“You knew the story?!” I asked her surprised and a little annoyed.
“No just the ending, Kai tells me the story often but he sucks at story telling so I only catch her words... She is speaking of you, right?” She asks with a tone of excitement.
“Well... yes but I am not appreciated anywhere...” I respond softly.
“Why is that?” She asked confused.
“I’m still known as a killer... even if I haven’t killed anyone these past thirteen years... but they will never trust me...” I respond looking at the sky which now begins to glow a dark orange.
“Bliss... I will always love you even if no one else trusts you” She then kissed my cheek.
“I love you too, Cyan.” A cool tear ran down my cheek and Cyan wiped it off with her cold frail hand and that’s when I realized Adze was rising.
“BLISS!!!” Cyan Shouted Frightened into my ear.
“I KNOW!!! SHIT CYAN DON’T SHOUT IN MY EAR!!!” I shouted back as I began to run faster than before. I was a few miles away from a cave where I believe Cyan’s friends lived in. “Cyan, that’s where the triplets live in, right?” I felt her nod and I smirked knowing I’ll get there on time, except I didn't expect the outcome to be so... horrible. When we got there the triplets told us to leave because Cyan was not their friend in any kind of way, anymore. “What the hell just happened back there, Cyan?” I began as I headed for the Arbor.
She sighed, “A few months ago they saw me with you, in the market...” she forced a laugh, “it’s funny, they said... that I can no longer be their friend for I have had been infected...” she shook her head, “infected by the pure-bloods venom in which is effective the second you touch it.”
“It... as in... Me?” I asked offended.
“That’s what they said...” She chuckled, “I told them that I would prefer to be infected by pure-bloods venom than that out the ass bull shit.”
I laughed, “Cyan! Don’t speak like that! Where did you learn to speak like that?”
“You” she said laughing.
“Aw shit that backfired...” I clasp my hand over my mouth, “Oops.”
She smiled brightly then pointed at an area next to the eldest tree, it almost reaches the sky. “Kai moved mother and I over there.” I nodded and ran towards that area.
“... Cyan... If we don’t get there on time... and I try to kill you...” I closed my eyes tightly holding back tears and softly mumbled, “Kill me.”
“Bliss... No, you want to know why? Because I love you, and I believe in you.” I could feel her smile and her words made it harder to hold back the tears. “Don’t think like that, okay?” She tightened her small arms around my neck and whispered into my left ear I believe in you, and the world went black.
