I was sitting, waiting patiently for Zayden to come. It was lunchtime, and I had my usual PB&J, but this time I was actually paying attention to my surroundings. Zayden and I had become friends - in a way - since the hospital incidence. We both didn't talk much, but we both appreciated it.

"Hey." I looked up to see it was him and a smile overtook my face.

"Guess what?"

"What?"

"There's a carnival in the next town over."

"Yes?"

"We're going."

"I don't remember agreeing to anything!" I gave him a look that obviously stated 'we're going'.

With a sigh, "What day?"

"Saturday."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"I just can't!"

He quickly gathered his things and walked away. It's not like I killed his cat, if he didn't want to go he should've been serious and told me. I'm not going to force him.

I ate my PB&J quietly, and couldn't wait to get out of this hell hole.

*****

I threw myself on the sofa and threw my bag somewhere in the living room. I was so freaking tired of this day. I quickly turned on the television and started watching a few TVD reruns.

Few Hours Later.

There was a knock on the door, and I knew it wasn't my mom. Who the hell would be coming to see me at this moment? It's not like I had friends.

With a sigh, I drag myself out of the sofa and open the door.

"I don't want your fucking girl scou-"

My speech halted to a stop to see it was Zayden Stone.

"Good thing I wasn't selling any." With that, he comes into my house uninvited and makes himself a home-invading my TVD time.

"What do you want?" I stand in front of him with my arms crossed and a vicious glare directed at him.

"I came to see my favorite person in this stupid town." I rolled my eyes at his sarcasm.

"Zayden Stone."

"Jamie Heart."

"Did you have a point to this visit, or did you just come here to ruin my life?" I took a seat next to him, snatching the remote from his hand and putting TVD back on.

"I came to apologize."

"For being an asshole?"

"For being rude."

"Same thing."

He let out an over-exaggerated sigh and ran a hand through his hair, and then faced me.

"You make apologizing difficult."

"Well, I'm not gonna make it easy."

"Okay, shut up." I sent a sarcastic smile his way and then turned back to the television.

But Zayden decided to grab my face and turn it towards him.

"Jamie Heart, would you go to the carnival with me?" I pondered over it. Should I go?

"No." He narrowed his eyes at me but didn't remove his hands.

"No?"

"Nope." He dropped his hands and leaned back into the sofa; defeated.

"Why not?"

"Because you didn't wanna' go for a reason and I' not going to force you."

He furrowed his eyebrows and looked towards me with curiosity before speaking, "Jamie Heart, you're pretty amazing."

I don't know but for some reason, I felt as if my face had heated up. Nobody has ever called me amazing, much less someone like Zayden.

I cleared my throat, "Shut up."

He boomed out a laugh before placing his arm around my shoulders.

"Zayden?"

"Yea?"

"Why didn't you wanna' go to the carnival?"

He looked over at me, "It's not that I don't wanna' go to the carnival, it's just that, that's the day I lost my family."

I froze at his words and felt like a bitch.

"I'm sorry."

"It doesn't matter." We settled into one of our calmful silences, but there were a million thoughts running through my head.

"I can hear the gears running through your little head."

"Aren't you smart?" He chuckled at my sarcasm and I turned towards him. Examining Zayden.

"Zayden, why don't you take the chemo?" If he minded my question, he didn't show it.

"I rather not suffer and die. If I'm gonna die, Imma' live my life before I do."

I didn't expect that.

"Do you know how long?"

"Who cares?"

"I do."

"You shouldn't, Jamie Heart."

"You make it difficult not to, Zayden Stone."
