Chapter Eighteen: Hospital Bed

I could feel something trickling down my cheeks unsure if it was tears or the rain. I was clutching my things and walking as fast as my feet would let me. I couldn't think about anything other than getting to Oritse and being in his arms, and him stroking my hair telling me everything's going to be alright. But is it? I don't know anymore. My mind was racing like crazy and I needed to just keep walking. I took a step onto the road as I started to cross it, my feet moving as quickly as possible when I felt my ankle twist the wrong way and I felt myself loosing my balance and falling to the ground. My mind took a few seconds too long to realise I was in the middle of the road when the sound of loud car horns started blaring. I looked to my left to see two bright yellow lights coming towards me faster and faster, they weren't stopping...

I started rising my heavy eyelids up and letting my eyes soak up my surroundings. My hand made it's way up to my head and I lightly touched part of my head, grimacing when my fingers touched a certain area and returned with blood on them. My eyes scanned what was around me, searching for a familiar face or voice. I realised I was in a bed, wearing a gown and there was a monitor making noises in a repetitive pattern beside me. I had a tag around my wrist with a number and my name on it. I realised I was in hospital. What happened? I don't remember anything...

There was a pair of men's shoes beside my bed and a huge bunch of flowers beside my bed on the table. There was also dozens of cards next to them.

Someone must have been in here with me for a long time, there is a bottle of water, partly drunk from on the table and rubbish in the bin...

I felt my hand reach up from my side and touch the chain around my neck. As soon as I looked at it my heart started beating faster and I suddenly felt overwhelmed.

"Chloe?!" I heard a voice say, in a shocked tone.

I looked up to see a man staring at me with a face of relief rushing through him. He half turns and shouts "Shes awake! She's awake!" before dumping the carrier bag from his hand to the floor and rushing over to me.

He threw his arms around me and squeezed me so tight. I heard him sigh with relief and he hugged me tighter.

"Oritse". I managed to mumble as I hugged him back.
