Ruby sat at the kitchen table coloring in her book. I stood up sipping my coffee as I glanced at her coloring. My little sweetie is going to be 8 years old in a month.
Then she turned around and looked at me, smiling her brightest smile. She hopped off the kitchen table chair and skipped to her room, leaving her coloring book on the table. I slowly walked over to it to take a peek at what she was coloring.
It was a blank page and it appeared to be a stick figure of a little girl, and black swirls above her head. The eyes of the girl were black, and the black crayon was left by the swirls, which it seemed she was still working on them.
Ruby skipped back from her room and saw me looking and smiled. She took her seat back and continued to color and draw. I sipped my coffee and slowly made my way to the kitchen counter.
I knew it.
She's just like me.
Fear began to take over me and I started panicking in my mind. I never noticed anything before, earlier in Ruby's life. Why is this happening now?
