end of the summer. 10 months ago. Jeffery's backyard.
Kayla was in the pool. With her pink one-piece and her blonde hair swirling in the water, she looked stunning. It was night, the moon was hitting on Jeffery's face from where he sat across the pool.
''A couple of weeks until the school starts.'' Jeffery spoke, breaking the everlasting silence between the two teenagers. ''You haven't spoken to your mom yet?''
Kayla furrowed her eyebrows and swam up to the sunbed that he was sitting on and splashed water all over him. He stood up and jumped into the pool.
They fooled around with water until she returned to her usual silence. He sighed and got out of the water, saying something about towels, but she wasn't listening to him. She was listening the darkness.
With a long breath, Kayla submerged herself into water and opened her eyes. Her eyes looked blank, with no sign of emotion in them. She let her breath out slowly, watched the bubbles rise to the surface.
Her head started pounding, she needed to get out of the water. But she didn't.
She succumbed to the pain she was feeling. She accepted it like it was her oldest friend.
Her eyes closed and her tight grip to the pool light, loosened.
Just as she was going to lose consciousness, Jeffery tugged at her limp arm and pulled her out of the water.
He shouted at her. He shouted at her with tears in his eyes, because she had let her down yet again.
