chapter four

~joe keery as mr adara guys xxxx

i stared at my hands as mr adara goes on about the structure of the human body. i usually like science but today it didn't seem so appealing. my mind drifted to the nurse harry and i pout. i can't blame myself for thinking this, what am i supposed to do when he constantly talks to me and has to be all nice and gets into my head? i'm a 17 year old girl deprived of any boy attention, he should know better.

'you alright sunny?' mr adara smiles at me from his desk. people around me turn around and i nod in response looking away from his eyes. alexandria sits at the top of the class supervising and writes something down whilst staring at me when mr adara moves on.

the class ends and just as i'm about to leave mr adara calls me back.

'alexandria, do you mind if i have a word with sunny for a minute?' he asks and i look inbetween them both.

'well, that would be against the-'

'it's just science.' he chuckles and smiles at me. i smile back and move up to his desk. alexandria leaves after a sly eye roll going unnoticed by mr adara but not by me.

he smiles and runs his fingers through his hair. 'you understand anything i was talking about today?'

i laugh. 'no, i wasn't listening.' he stares back at me. 'sorry, wrong thing to say to the teacher right?' i tuck a strand of hair behind my ear.

'it's fine sunny, i understand. i was only in school three years ago.' i nod, i wasn't surprised. he looked young.

'shocked?' he asks with a smirk on his face.

'no, i suspected you were kinda young.'

he smiled this james dean smile. he looked like he had been just picked up out of the 80s with his suede denim jacket and flared light wash jeans.

'what did you ask me to stay back for?' i tighten my grip on a copy and scrappy science textbook.

'oh yeah.' he shakes his head. 'well, you haven't been paying that much attention in class and i know your capable of so much more, so if you want- i could organise some night classes just to run over things in abit more detail?'

i smile. 'you'd do that?'

'yeah of course.'

'thanks-yeah i hope it will help.' i grin and bob my shoulders. 'i like science.'

'cool, i'll run it with fern and then we can start tomorrow at seven?'

'sure.' i smile excitedly. it probably seems stupid to get so easily excited but something outside of my routine in here is like a christmas present.

i walk out of the room with a huge stupid smile on my face and make my way back to my room, not knowing alexandria was following behind.

i checked in with fern i was in my room before i went in and went straight to my desk, putting my books in a pile. i sat in boredom for about ten seconds before he burst through the door, half his face covered by the books his arms were wrapped around.

'help me, help they're gonna fall.' he says and i rush up taking half the pile off his hands.

'god, i didn't think you were going to get this many.' i look at the pile of books in his hands and mine.

'yeah me neither, but my bookshelf was getting overcrowded- i could do with some new books.' he shrugs and i nod in response. i pick up one of the books, anna karenina-leo tolstoy.

'i think you'll like that one.' he stares at the book in my hands.

'yeah?' he nods in response.
