'We can all guess why we're here?'
They had all been gathered; letters, emails, text messages alike had been sent out and all twelve had replied. It was a cryptic message they had recieved, the one piece of actual information given out being the address. But curiousity had driven them all to arrive anyway; it wasn't like they had anything to lose.
Celeste didn't know why she was here and she was sure the others were just as clueless, but as she scanned the rest of the young adults gathered with cold blue eyes she couldn't guess why they had even bothered attending. The was obviously a serious matter but they eleven other children gathered were acting like it was seventh grade all over again.
Her attention couldn't help but be drawn to the woman smacking gum in the corner or a rather handsome man winking subtly at a flustered oriental girl. Biting her bottom lip to hold back a sharp retort, she forced her attention back to the elderly man who continued on as if the whole class was entraced by his every word.
'This government situation obviously isn't working,' the old man droned, pointing with a small polished stick to where a drawing of the new apocalyptic world was made in chalk. Small magnets attatched to the magnetic blackboard represented every capital of the different countries that had been forced together. 'While there are no more gaps and no more bodies of water seperating every country and continent, fights have begun about who owns what land. We can't have this anymore.'
With a sweep of his pointing stick the magnets were knocked off, clattering uselessly onto the expensive marble floor. With a crack of his old back, the instructor rose to his feet and drew a rather child-like crown across the whole of the land mass.
'What's that meant to be?' asked an ignorant and rather childlike young male, his lips pursing together as if he was already king and his subjects were displeasing him.
'A crown you ignorant twit.' The voice came from the tall, mature young woman who had been sitting quietly to the side without disturbing others. However her voice was so cold and so intimidating and certainly enough to make the male sit back with a defeated sigh, trying to hide his own shock at her forwardness.
'We're establishing a monarchy,' the old man continued, waving off their behaviour with a flick of his hand in their general direction. 'As the only living decendants of the original royals, you have all been chosen as the worlds successor.'
There was stunned silence for a moment, everyone forgetting their distracting tasks to turn shocked eyes up to the board. Everyone had different reactions; some were just shocked and others looked horrified at the idea but unsurprisingly others just looked power hungry as if they had been waiting for this their whole lives.
Twelve of them in total, all from different countries it seemed. Celeste looked down at her own tanned hands, letting a strand of ash brown hair fall in front of her vision; Australian no doubt, but that sure didn't seem like a place with royalty. She had always known that there was something like that far up her family tree but for people to actually be tracing it down the lines? She was a little creeped out. What else did they know?
'But there can only be one king or queen,' the old man said quickly, snapping everyone to attention, 'Christmas day is the day everyone will vote. Leading up until then you are free to do whatever you want to win over the public! Lead events, kill twenty million people, it's up to you!'
Kill twenty million people? Judging by the looks on everyones faces, Celeste wouldn't put it past the twelve gathered future kings and queens.
