It was half after noon of the next day, as the trio stood on the Wave Building. Anarchy paced impatiently and Piper and Peregrine watched her.
"What's taking him so long?!" Anarchy said with frustration.
Peregrine shrugs, "not sure. He did tell me to say noon and meet here?"
"Maybe he slept in?" Piper said casually looking around over the city.
An hour passes and the three still stand waiting for his arrival. Anarchy was angrily ranting about being Sol being late, Piper was laying down taking a nap, and Peregrine watched Anarchy ranting. Anarchy finally turned to Peregrine and sighed, "can we got to his place now? I'm tired of waiting."
Peregrine frowned, "I... I guess we can." He nudged Piper awake.
Piper sat up and rubbed his eyes tiredly, "is he here?"
"No, we're going to his little hideout." Anarchy said annoyed.
Piper nods and gets up, "can I just hop on your back Archy? I don't feel like walking with my mice."
Peregrine opens his wings, "I can carry you Piper."
Piper nods and hops on Peregrine's back as someone would for a piggy back ride. Anarchy hops down off the building and Peregrine takes off with Piper.
They arrive at the building and Peregrine puts Piper down. Anarchy walks up to the building and pulls up the the garage door. Inside was dark, so Peregrine turned on a light on his helmet that lit up the room. Giant machines crowded the room. Some looked like the ones that were in the Merit Labs and other lab buildings the clones attacked. Anarchy and Piper looked around trying to take everything in and figure it out. In the back of the building, a light flickered on and off so the three headed toward it. Two identical, large, metal machines stood beside each other with heavy duty wires connected between them. Wires ran down to the ground, the ends sparked as if they were left on. A loud generator sound filled the warehouse as the lights came back on. In the shadow of the two machines laid a man; some of the wires from the machines ran into him. Anarchy immediately ran up to the man and felt him for a pulse that was barely noticeable.
Piper walked up and pulled the cables out of him, "who is this guy? he seems vaguely familiar.."
Anarchy knelt next to the man and squinted, "yeah... he does..? Does he look familiar to you Peregrine?"
Peregrine crouched down as Anarchy glanced at him. Peregrine slowly shook his head then scooped the man into his arms.
"who is it?" Piper said more forcefully as he looked to Anarchy.
Peregrine faced the two and frowned, "I... It's Sol... I don't know what he's done to himself now. Please just help me help him. I don't know what to do." he said with audible desperation.
Anarchy nodded and stood up, "I can take him to a hospital?" Peregrine nodded no.
Piper knelt next to Peregrine and studied Sol's face for a moment. Sol looked like every other guy you might meet on the street, yet his face had a soft and comforting look to it. Piper then looked up to Peregrine's masked face, "you really care about him don't you...?"
Peregrine quickly nodded, "He's done so much for me and I owe him everything. I lied to you guys earlier when I told you I didn't know much about what he did in here or who he was." He paused and took a breath, then continued, "Sol was a really good friend of mine for awhile now. We spent a long time trying to help him sort his powers out and how he could use them to do good in this city. His powers are so complicated..." Peregrine showed Piper that Sol's wrist that had the same sun on it as Peregrine's wrist. "For awhile we had him try and fight things out on that dock, but his powers could never manifest unless they were given. It took a little help, but we were able to give him something to help him. If he uses his own powers too much he can get very tired. He sent me to you guys instead of helping him here... I knew I should of stayed... This is all my fault..." Peregrine looked away.
Anarchy put a hand on his shoulder, "So what was he doing with this stuff..?"
Peregrine glanced at the machines. "He was trying to make himself more powerful by trying to overwhelm his system... I told him how dangerous this was. Why didn't he listen to me?"
Piper gently places a hand on Sol's shoulder. Images flood his head for a fleeting second and Sol springs up breathing hard. Piper stares in horror as Peregrine quickly clings to him. Sol stares at the floor breathing hard as Peregrine hugs him tightly. He looks at Piper and tenses up, he quickly waves his hand over his face and a mask forms over it.
Sol frowns and stares up at Piper, "What...what did you just do...?"
Piper shrugs and stares at his hands distraught, "I don't know."
