I didn't expect to be flirting with this girl. But she was so pretty. I mean, god damn. Somehow, she had accomplished a messy bun and she made the school uniform look amazing. I was surprised nobody else had been trying to talk to her when I walked in. The most surprising thing, was that she seemed nervous. Like she had been watching me and been sucked into a trance. I didn't think that I could do that to anyone. Especially not Josh. I didn't think I was that pretty, or good looking. And lord knows how much makup I had to put on certain parts of my face to cover up bruises. But here was this amazingly hot girl, sat in front of me and practically turned to jelly just because I had said 'Hi' to her. Some part of me kind of enjoyed it. So I wanted to keep the conversation going. See if she could say a full three sentences.
"What brings you to this hellhole?" my question seems to knock her out of her trance and she steels her jaw before saying "I got kicked out of my old school" Well. Didn't expect that. Well. If you don't mind me asking. What for?" "Because I got bullied. And I finally hit back."

"I would never have been able to do that. That took guts." "That was me getting tired of the same old shit they used to pull." she said. I laughed. Okay. I liked this girl. "You're funny." then, struck with a sudden thought "Hey! Are you busy after school? Maybe we can do something at my house. You can ride in the car with me and my boyfriend." Then the class started and the teacher made us be silent. So she slipped me her notebook across the desk and it said "Okay. I'll meet you at the front gate?" I looked up at her and nodded. She smiled. So did I. For the first real time in a week.

But by the end of the day, I was regretting my choice to invite her more and more. Not because she was nice. But because I was afraid of what Josh would say. So I told him at lunch. When we were surrounded by his friends. "Hey Josh. I invited this new girl from my math class to my house after school. Is it cool if she rides with us today?" he clenched his jaw for a second but only long enough that I could see. He took my hand under the table and it took all my willpower not to flinch away. "Sure babe, anything you want." and with that he dug his nails into my hand so hard I could feel the skin tear and gave me a look that said 'we aren't done with this converaation' and with that he promptly ignored me for the rest of lunch.

Now, I'm standing at the front gate waiting for her to walk out of school with Josh muttering under his breath about how much of a waste of his time this is and couldn't she hurry the fuck up? But I knew better than to defend her and say that it was only her first day here. It would only hurt me worse later. Finally, after ten minutes, I saw Alexia scrambling away from a girl that had a terrible look in her eyes. Alexia turned and saw me and started jogging over to me. The girl saw me and immediately put on the nicest smile she could. But I couldn't shake the feeling that wouldn't be the last time I saw that horible glint.

"Hey, sorry it took so long" she said, holding her wrist. "I ran into a girl from my old school. And the teacher ran us out of the school because she needed to lock all the doors." I immediately saw through this and knew that the girl had hurt her in the past. I knew the kind of lies you made up to hide it. And that was one I had used before too. To Josh. About a girl from my old school. It hadn't been a pretty sight.

I gave her a concerned look but when she met my eyes she looked away. "Alright, well, shall we go then?" Josh says, taking my hand. I can't hide the flinch this time. He opens the door for me and then walks to the other side and opens the door for Alexia. As I said. Always a gentleman when he's with other people. And then we set off towards my house. Back to my own personal hiding hole from all problems. Sometimes.
