“Alright class, tomorrow you get your first assignment. How you accomplish it and handle yourself will determine your ranking and where you fall in society. Don’t mess this up because it determines how the rest of you life will go.” The tall man standing in front of the class spoke the words casually. He was resting upon his desk, his gaze drifting over his class. “Be fore warned, if you get in a bad situation, no one will come to save you. If you die, you die. This is an actual task, no shortcuts.” A shrill sound broke into the room, sounding that class was over. “Go to your dorms and get some rest, you start first thing in the morning. So meet in the halls of tales.”
Getting up, the students rushed from the room and started talking amongst each other. They all wore the same thing. The same dull black uniform. The girls had short hair, and those that didn’t, had it pulled up. The guys also kept their hair short, it being the code of dress. The school had grown harder upon the students, finding that if they got to lenient then the more students ended up dying with in the first task.
Sighing, a girl with shoulder length black choppy hair and lavender eyes stood from her seat. Shrugging her hobo bag over her shoulder she walked from the class room. No excitement ran through her, no fear of what was going to happen. No emotions where within her petite form. Keeping stride, she walked down the large gold and red hall, heading to only one place.
A slight smile placed on her face as she neared the large golden doors. Pushing them open and walking in, she instantly headed off to the back of the large library. The academy’s library was quite large for it was the home to every fairy tale that had ever been made. Other books carries info on how to handle some situations. The one Sabrina had found most amusing was how to properly remove a small child from a wolfs stomach with out killing either of them.
Looking a head, she could see a nerdish looking guy sitting in a large lavish chair in the back, his nose in a book. Rolling her lavender, she plopped down next to him. Setting the bag down, she propped her legs up and over his knees. The boy didn’t move at all. Not even showing any sign of noticing her.
“So, now what are you reading?” Her voice was soft and calming, wrapping around the two of them.
His dark blue eyes flickered to her, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
Slightly her brow furrowed, “Uh, why? Seriously Blake, is it that important of a read?”
“Yeah Sabrina, it kind of is.” He closed the book and let it drop to the floor, not hiding his annoyance. “You never know what story were going to get stuck with, so it make’s sense to study up on as much as I can. I want this to go well for us and so should you.” He huffed and shoved her legs off of him and stood. “Shouldn’t you be going to bed now? I’m no good with out you.”
“Aw.” Grinning, she stood as well. “That’s so sweet. You know I hate sleeping. I hate dreaming, it makes it seem as if a fantasy is better then reality.”
“Sabrina, we live in a fantasy. In a world of fairy tales. We ourselves, shouldn’t even exist.” He walked from the library with her following behind him. “Human life is the void of life, we are nothing in a world of darkness. Our only reason for life is to keep the darkness out of a human child’s bedtime story. We live for only that reason. So dreaming, it should be a reason for you to escape this life.”
Glaring at the back of his head, Sabrina so very much wanted to hit him. “Shut up, I hate when you talk like that.” Slightly she shook her head, making her hair follow the movement. “I don’t like to dream because I hate to sleep, you never know when your going to wake up.” Looking away from him, she pushed open the door to their room and walked in.
It was the size of a normal room that two people would be forced to share. The walls painted pure white. Sabrina use to think it was an off white, but soon found it wasn’t. Off white was much easier to keep clean. A soft click came behind her, making it known that Blake had just closed the door. She walked to her side of the room with out giving him a little glance.
