Hello everyone, sorry I haven't posted in awhile. This book is going to be on hold/completed as of this chapter. I have a few more ideas but won't be working on them till summer. I am, however, rewriting Dead Earth so feel free to check it out when I get it posted. :)

Two dates, never three.

My name is Adoni, she who fights dragons. Never in my life have I seen a dragon, but my mother thought to give me a courageous name, quite unlike my weak-willed older sister Aglaia. She is a simple-minded woman of beauty and splendor, as per her name.

I met my mate of the psyche half a moon ago. I had just turned the age of seven and ten a few days before.

"Tis about time!" My mother had exclaimed happily when I gave the news at supper. "Thy sister received her betrothed at four and ten!"

I'd considered four and ten much too young to have a mate of the psyche, but did not argue with mother at the time.

"Mother-mine, a mate of the psyche is not a betrothed, they are betrothed only after acceptance from their other half," I had sighed, having explained this to her twice before.

"It matters not, who is the young lad? Shall I approve?"

"It matters not whether you approve of him, mother-mine. I have already come of age, Goddess Artemis accepted my sacrifice of childhood. Do remember that I could leave at any time I wish."

"Now that thou have a mate of the psyche, sister-mine," my sister had sneered from her cushion.

"Thou know as I do, sister-mine, that I have given my life to Athena, the Goddess of War. Therefore I may leave on my journey to appease her when I wish, mate of the psyche or no. As Aphrodite has claimed thee, you shall forever be a simple house wife whilst I am a warrior," I had replied, irritated, but did not allow her to see it upon my countenance.

Aglaia had huffed, and sat back on the dinner cushion.

My mother seemed to have nothing to say, although she had been the one to name me Adoni, she still had not come to terms with my being a warrior.

However, now, I had already left my family. My mate of the psyche and I had gone on our own adventure, to see the world.

We had left so soon, because both our dates were to end in a single moons' time. Our last dates.

Chrysolorus had his normal three dates, the last to end at the same time as mine, and we wished to see what we could before we walked in Hades' Realm.

A quarter moon has come and gone, we have merely three quarters of our single moon left together.

After making a sacrifice of a small animal I'd killed to Hermes for safe travels, we visited the most celebrated temples of Athena and Ares, our patron gods.

We now visited the sea, the vast, open waters of Poseidon's Realm glimmered under the soft sunlight of evening.

I stood upon the beach, the waves slapping gently against the sand, the trees, my feet. Chry was hunting, as it was his turn this night.

Since I was the better hunter, I had gathered scallops and other denizens of the sea as a precaution of him not fetching as much food as I usually did.

As I expected, he arrived with a single rabbit.

From that he made stew and I cooked the sea animals upon a flat rock in the fire.
