It was close to 6:00 a.m. in the morning, the sun was just on the horizon and casting a golden glow on the trees that surrounded Konohagakure, The Village Hidden in the Leaves. Outside the village and in the deep forests surrounding it, quick footsteps could be heard among the branches as swift bodies propelled themselves from one branch to another. They were all wearing black cloaks that billowed in the breeze as they jumped from tree to tree, except for one member who was wearing a white cloak and appeared to be leading the group through the thick foliage. The only distinguishable thing about the group were the white porcelain masks adorning their faces that resembled animals.

They were the Anbu Black Ops, covert operatives of the Kage. In this case, the covert operatives to the Hokage.

They catapulted from tree branch to tree branch, blurs to the naked eye, appearing to be heading towards the village from a successful mission. Suddenly, the leader, his mask resembling that of a bird, felt a spike of unfamiliar chakra ahead of them and halted his group with a motion of his arm. The group stopped behind him on the branches of the trees, on high alert now.

"What is it, Buntaichō*?" asked one member wearing a mask resembling a cat.

He glared through his mask into the distant brush of the trees. "I sense a chakra signature I don't recognize. All of you, be cautious in case it's an enemy."

"Yes sir!" they chorused, readying their weapons as they took off into the forest, they too feeling the unfamiliar chakra directly in front of them.

The one wearing the cat mask noticed that the chakra signature was dangerously low, meaning that the person they were about to encounter was suffering from chakra exhaustion or they were masking their chakra. "Hawk," she called to her leader. "The chakra signature is dangerously low, either the person is suffering from severe chakra exhaustion or they are masking it because they detected us coming."

"I know Cat, I detect it too. Hurry up, everyone!"

They all chorused again, "Yes Sir!"

The group sped faster into the forest, sending chakra into their feet to speed up the process. Finally, they broke through the trees to where the source of the low chakra was. They all stared in shock as they looked down below on the forest floor.

A small frame could be made out, the sun shining on the person's brown hair. The person, who appeared to be a young girl, was wearing civilian clothing in the form of a simple yellow dress with pink flower prints. She laid on the ground and they all noticed a small rivulet of blood leaking from her nose.

"What is a child.... doing here?" asked Cat, looking at the child in shock.

"I don't know...," said Hawk, jumping down to the ground to where the young girl was. "But whoever and wherever she came from, her chakra level is low. We have to take her to Konoha. NOW."

They all nodded in agreement with their leader as he gently scooped up the girl, making sure she wasn't suffering from any other injuries before jumping back into the trees. Then he and his squad headed back towards Konoha.

All of them unaware of a mask man watching their every move. 'Hinami-chan.... Your new life shall now begin.....'

"Child...."

A voice called out to Hinami as she floated through an infinite plane of darkness, eyes shut and her body unmoving. Yet when the voice spoke, her eyelids fluttered open ever so slightly as if she were waking from a deep slumber. Her body felt sluggish and she could barely feel her limps; she couldn't really feel anything at all.
