She was an enigma to him.

He thought he knew her based on his experiences with other girls, but she twisted his world around in an infinite number of ways. So many in fact he could no longer understand his own mind.

Fueguchi Hinami was like a drug to Uchiha Sasuke.

He tried to stay away from her as best he could, but no matter how much he distanced himself from her, she pulled him back in; like the drug that she was, he couldn't get away.

Sasuke wasn't romantically attracted to her, his heart not skipping a beat any time he sees her or any of that romantic shit he's heard girls babble on about when in love. No, he's attracted to her in a different way.

An attraction of pain and loneliness....

Sasuke was sitting at his usual place in the classroom, ignoring the voices and inquiries of the girls trying to "impress" him. As far as he was concerned, these girls were just hopeless idiots who would never become shinobi. They only cared about their looks, popularity, and boys. He kept his focus on the front of the classroom as Iruka cleared his throat.

"Class," he said to get their attention, "I would like to inform you all that we will be receiving a new classmate today. So be on your best behavior for when they arrive."

Students began to mutter about how strange it was for a new student to show up in the middle of the school year. Then they began to wonder if the new student was a boy or a girl. Boys whispered and giggled at how they want the new student to be a girl while some girls discussed that the student was going to be a boy. Iruka went to the door when he heard a quiet knock and let the person in. To the joy of the boys and the horror to some of the girls, the new student was a girl.

The girl was wearing an anbu styled, burgundy hued crop tank top over fish netting and what appeared to be white bandages wrapped around her torso underneath said fish netting. She wore black shorts that went to almost her knees, her shuriken holster on her left thigh, and matching black shinobi sandals. Her brown hair was tied into two small, low pigtails that went over her shoulders.

"Class, I would like to introduce you to your new classmate, Fueguchi Hinami. She comes from the border between the Land of Fire and Land of Rivers. Please give her a warm welcome."

"Hello," said the girl, Hinami, as she bowed in respect. "It will be a pleasure being in your class." Some of the guys blushed at how cute and polite she was being. Sasuke just blankly stared at her, not really thinking much about her.

'She will be just like the other girls in this class.... Weak and pathetic while caring about only her looks.' He sighed as Hinami took a seat in front of him.

The duration of the class was tedious for most of the student's eyes began to droop; Shikamaru had already past out before the start of class along with Naruto. The more diligent students drank in every word that Iruka was spouting and writing it down in their notes. Sasuke himself took down notes, but only those he saw fit to write. He glanced down and saw Hinami meticulously jotting down notes in her own journal, her glancing up at the board every now and again if Iruka wrote something important on it. 'At the very least,' he thought, 'she knows how to take notes, unlike most of the girls in here.'

He could feel the eyes of the many obsessive girls burning holes on the back of his skull; it would not surprise him if he felt behind his head and found said holes.

Sasuke glanced down and caught Hinami staring at him over her shoulder before her eyes dart away from him, as if his gaze alone would kill her on the spot. 'There she goes... Already staring at me like I'm eye candy like the other girls here.' Grunting, he returned to his work, jotting down notes until Iruka dismissed the class for the day and said that they would be doing shuriken practice tomorrow. Some kids groaned as Iruka past out the homework assignments, especially from Naruto.
