Chapter 20: PIPER

Yo guys! So I got the Wattpad app on my iPad and it's pretty cool but, I'm still learning how to use it. Writing is sooo much easier when your browser doesn't crash every three seconds. Thanks to 'booklover105' for liking these past chapters, it's really inspiring. Also thanks to Catherine_of_Aragon for the like on my third chapter :) you guys have no idea how 2,000 reads means to me!! Also 25 votes... You guys are the bomb! The dedication is to this awesome guy for answering the question correctly! I'm eating mashed potatoes which are DELICIOUS and I don't have swimming today YUP! Hope you like this chapter and remember to comment/vote if you like this story! PIPER

When Piper woke up, she wasn't sure if she had even actually woken up. It was dark and cold and...wet? She felt around blindly until she struck a body. She stifled a scream but calmed down when she realized the only "logical" choice was that she was in the cave with Gaea's monsters, and the body was Leo's. She had no idea how they would get out of this one, she hadn't calculated it well enough. 'Guess I'm just not Athena material...' Piper thought glumly to herself. She refused to give up, though. If they were going to die, they were going to go down with a fight. She pushed herself off of the ground and crawled over to where Leo was laying motionless on the dirt floor.

"Leo...Leo wake up!" She tried to shake him awake, but all he did was mumble and swat her hand away lazily. The poison! The first thing Piper needed to do was cure Leo, because even if she managed to defeat the monsters without Gaea finding out, how was she supposed to get Leo out fast enough to ACTUALLY make it safely out if the cave? Jason didn't know where they were. For all she knew, her friends thought they were already dead. Joy...

She fished around her pockets and searched her jacket, she even tried the cornucopia (still tied to her shoulder like a quiver of arrows) but none of them managed to produce the food of the gods she desperately needed. So, to sum up, it was a plan that had a 99% chance of failure. And for demigods, getting lucky enough to get that 1% was legendary. She was about to just give up when she heard a small whisper erupting from the far left side of the tunnel. It was only a whisper at first, but it eventually grew in volume to make it sound like the person was right next to her.

"Daughter of love, standing alone. No one to save her now. Tragedy, despair, death." to say Piper was freaked out was an understatement. She jumped 3 feet in the air when a woman materialized in front of her.

"Hello Piper McLean! I am Gaea, I am the earth and I will be your destruction. But, like the earth, I'm not always destructive. I can make beautiful things, I can have some fun. So, daughter of Aphrodite, are you ready to have some fun?"

Piper didn't think "fun" was the word to describe whatever Gaea had in mind. But....she had to find a loophole. What if...?

"You like to have fun, Gaea? You know what fun people do?" she taunted the earth goddess, "They gamble. They get all or nothing."

Gaea looked puzzled before raising her eyebrows and asking, "So?"

Piper smirked an put her hands on her hips. "So? So be fun! Gamble with us! All or nothing! All meaning you get both of us and nothing means you let us go, fair and square. Plus, you get upper hand. You're a goddess!"

Gaea seemed to consider this before looking at Piper straight in the eye and nodding. "All right, I'll be fun. I'll gamble. But you must be fun too!" the earth goddess' eyes flittered to Leo before she smiled, " Your friend must play too."

"He's drugged! He isn't even awake!" Piper complained

"Exactly! You get all, or you get nothing! Make your choice!" Gaea vanished after she sank back into the earth. Creepy.

Piper couldn't force Leo to play something even a fit person, someone fully awake, couldn't do. He was unconscious and probably in pain from that stupid empousai bite. But they really had no choice, did they? If they decided not to play, Piper would get bitten as well. Her friends would never see them again and they'd die helping Gaea rise. She couldn't do that! At least, if they died this way, they'd die a hero's death, trying to get away from evil, right? Piper had played checkers with her father when she was younger. If you had no other move and you were bound to lose a piece, you had to take the path that cost you the less loss of pieces. This was their path. She crawled over to Leo, gave his hand a small squeeze and muttered a quick sorry.

She stood up and went to the same spot where Gaea had begun chanting the same creepy message.

"Gaea! I've made my decision!" Piper hollered at the place where she hoped Gaea was. She'd look really stupid just yelling at the wall.

The said woman materialized and smiled at her, "Indeed YOU have made the depiction,. Your friend will not be pleased either way. What is your final choice, daughter of the dove?"

Piper walked forward and stared at Gaea, " I- We choose to play your game!"

Gaea clucked her tongue and shook her head and the cave began to collapse, rock falling everywhere.

"I don't think that was very smart of you." them she disappeared, leaving Piper in a crumbling cave with an unconscious person and no supplies.

'I don't think we're gonna get that 1%' she thought.

"I don't think we're gonna get it either." she heard a voice and turned around. It was, indeed, Leo. She smiled to see Leo awake, but she had to act fast. She helped him up and half dragged, half supported him to end of the cave.

They smiled sadly at each other before saying in unison, "Let the games begin!"

And together, they hobbled to the end of tunnel, to their possible deaths.

You guys!!! Thanks sooo much :) I was talking to PJANDKKFAN yesterday and she's (I'm almost 100% sure it's a she) (PLEASE DON'T GO ALL ARTEMIS' HUNTERS ON ME!!!) pretty cool. Yeah so it's 12:53 AM :( but hey, it's up right?

Winter is approaching! (Well...technically...meh) for me you go into freezing weather, jump into freezing water, swim in freezing water for like 1 hr and 45 mins and THEN and THEN you go to your car, wet and freezing...GRRR

DAY OF THE DOCTOR TOMORROW!!! (Well technically today...)
