When I woke up on Monday, my mom was sitting in the kitchen alone. She had always been up first while my father really needed a good sleep. I was already dressed when I entered in the room, I had my bag ready. I had no news from Harry and I was impatient to see him. We were supposed to be together so why did he not text me?

My mum smiled and waited for me to sat in front of her.

“So young girl. Anything to tell me?” she asked a grin on her face.

“No mum.” I replied innocently not aware of what was going to follow.

“How was your weekend? We were out most of the time and we did not took the time to talk.”

“It was fine, the girls came one afternoon and I spent the rest of the time studying.”

“The girls?” she said with a suspicious look.

“Yes… Beck and Ellen…”

“No boys, uh?”

I hate to lie to my mother, I decided to avoid her sight and to act as if I did not hear her question but she continued to speak.

“I saw him Hannah. It remembered me the old times when he escaped by the back door when you both thought we were asleep. It seemed that sometimes, things did not change.” She smiled. My cheeks were burning, it took me a time to speak:

“You… I, I wanted to tell you… I… You talked to him?” The idea of my mum and Harry talking made me blush even more.

“Yes. It’s a funny story in fact. We came back around ten o’clock and your father was too tired to notice anything but I heard the stairs creak. I went into your room where you were asleep, only a plaid and a hoody on you. I’m not an inspector Hannah but I’m not dumb. I went down stairs and I found our dear Harry trying to open the door.” She stopped and took a sip out of her coffee cup. My mother had always love being dramatic and played with her interlocutors.

“I told him that we had changed the lock few months ago. I had not turn the light on and he was not aware of my presence. You should have seen his face, I was really proud of my little game.” She was smiling at me waiting for any reaction but I was not able to speak.

“It’s how I learn that you and him are back together. I offered him to drive him back but he told me his car was parked along the street. Hannah, now tell me, what happened? I thought he was the last jerk on Earth and now you’re dating him again? Are you sure it’s the best idea you ever had?”

“I don’t know. It’s just that we realized it was useless to fight while we were still in love. We hurt each other, the car crash destroyed our relation somehow but maybe we can go through this together you know…”

“Let me ask you one question,” she cut me, “Are you sure the car accident was not a pretext to break up? I mean, you were both about to leave for university, even if it’s the same establishment, it has always been seen as a new start, a new life. Perhaps your relation was not made to last after secondary school.”

Mums and their wise words. First daughters issues.

“I just want to give us another chance. I think that event made loose hope and confidence in us and we waste almost two years fighting but we’re finally back together, it does mean something, don’t you think? I don’t want to wonder what would have happened if this car did not collapse with us. I want to live the moment.”

“You’re right honey. I’m glad you’re happy and I hope all this is going to end well.”

“Thank you and… Does dad know about Harry in the kitchen in the middle of the night?”

“Of course he doesn’t! I have always love Harry, but your father is a father… I bet that your boyfriend might be dead by now if he only knew.” She winked and we laugh.

I was glad that we had this discussion and moreover that she did not tell a word to my father.

However the word “boyfriend” she used to qualify Harry reminded me that he had not giving a sign of life and I was worried he had change his mind.

I arrived in advance for my first class, the only one I shared with Harry. The advantage of living in our small town is that it was the nearest place to the campus and we did not need to rent a bedroom for the year. I was playing with my phone while the room began to fill up with students. Some of them came to talk others only nodded to me but none of them were the curly boy I was waiting for. I was staring at the door, nervously hitting my nails on the desk. The class began and he was not here. I try to listen to the professor but my mind was occupied imagining all sort of unrealistic stories that could have happened to him.

When the hour finally ended I got out, suddenly running into a boy. The one I expected.

“Hey Hannah.” He smiled, leaning for a kiss.

“Where were you?” I asked, relieved to see him.

“I’ve been busy yesterday and I did not wake up in time this morning.”

He did not look as a person who lacked of sleep but he was in front of me and that was all I needed. He took my hand and led me to my next class.

We met some people from our town and they looked as us as if we came from another world. It was pleasant to attract the attention again.

When we started to date it was a real surprise for all our school. How a no-one girl like me could be dating a boy as Harry Styles? Rumour ran that it was a bet, that he would dump me after several weeks but nothing like this happened and I became the new it girl. People I never talked to went hugging me and made me compliments as if I was a new pop singer. It was the consequences of dating Harry, you were the centre of all the gossips and conversations. After our broke up I kept my image but the feeling I experienced while walking hand in hand with this magnificent boy was something unique, only him could provoked.

“I see you at lunch?” he asked me, a sexy grin on his face.

“Sure.” I replied, stars in my eyes.

“Call me and I’ll tell you where I am.”

He kissed me and left me surrounded by people who wondered what just happened. The feeling I underwent with Harry made me fly and the question of why he did not contact me during the previous days had fade away.
