Good thing St. Luke’s Hospital was just a few minutes away. As we got there, Lou asked the attending nurse. “Excuse me, can you tell us where a Connor Mill is staying in? He’s our friend.” ‘Room 616.’ The annoyed and obviously tired nurse gave us the direction.
“Thanks!” and with that, we sprinted out to the elevator.
Room 616. We got inside, and we were greeted by our friends and classmates in school. What’s happening?
“Is this a pre-reunion thing going on? Where’s Connor? Is he okay?” I said obviously confused.
“Happy birthday Melissa!” they all chorused with matching claps, cheers and confetti.
“Aswadhfakbnirhtgn!!! What the F?”
“Mmmeeehhhhh? You like it?” Lou asked while hiding behind Drake being cautious about the situation at hand. I hate my birthday. I just hate it.
“I can’t believe you fell for it!” Connor broke out of the people crowding the room. I’m going to kill him, well maybe not literally.
“What did you do?! You’ve invited everyone from school!!!”
“It’s still not all of them; there are some more people about to come.” He said with not a hint of emotion. What’s wrong with him!!??
“I specifically told you like yesterday to not give me a birthday party!” I whispered-shouted so as not to be heard by the people who I bet don’t even know what the party is for. “Where’s the food?!” Aahh, food. Food never betrayed me, not for one second.
“That’s my girl, there are lemon squares and burgers! Ooohhhh!” by the sound of those six words, I forgot what we were arguing about. He held on to my shoulders from behind and pushed me, like he made me as his shield.
Six lemon squares and nine burgers later, “Happy birthday Mel!!! We’re so so sorry for not telling you,” Bianca, Gabby and Lou shouted in chorus. “…and for giving you the best party in the world.” Alexis, always that girl, had to give me a sarcastic apology… typical her.
To say I was startled was not an understatement, it was perfect. I dropped the food. “I was going to finish that!” they all just snickered. What kind of people are you! Feeding off of my agony, cruel! I managed a huge smile after Lou handed me a fresh untouched-by-the-floor burger.
“I see the food has worked its magic. That was fast.” Alexis blurted. I just sent her an evil look.
Connor, Lou and I were best friends ever since. Of course Lou and I got along more because we were girls, duh. But the three of us were unbreakable. But then puberty kicked in, and Connor got more good-looks and so did Lou, and I was left with only the height, which I am thankful for, and the brains, or so I think. Connor and Lou might be the good-looking people but they are far from the popular kids that everyone hates and loves at the same time. They’re just regular people, although Connor hangs out with his teammates in basketball who are the actual popular people, he doesn’t lose himself in all those shallow shit. He goes out with us and eats with us during lunch. And at times, he even insists on going with him to hang out with his brainless meat-full friends. Now that Drake is in our group, Connor just had more reason to stick with us.
Lou’s the perfect girl that everyone wants. I think all of Connor’s brainless meat-full friends hit on her on all occasions. They never learn. Connor’s like our big brother. He was protective but the most immature in the group. Bianca began to hang out with us because Connor was there. I thought this girl was the geekiest person ever. She is like the valedictorian in our batch and she wanted to be with the Connor Mill. She then realized how Connor was more of a friend than a future boyfriend, she ditched her love fantasies about Connor, which until now horrifies me, and now she’s practically one of our best friends. Gabby is the sweet girl here. She is like the most angelic person I have ever met, and then I searched her iPod for new music. I found metal, alternative, punk, and all other kind of rock in the list. I even found out that she was the bully in some other school before she got in here. Alexis is the complete opposite of Bianca. She’s the aggressive type who never takes no for an answer. I don’t even know how or why she came to our group. The two of us never see eye to eye, but oh well, she is a good friend.
