I felt a chill run through my spine. The door to the orphanage was swung open, and a gust of chilled breeze crawled on the back of my neck and spine. A tall women with dirty-blonde hair, walked in, and dusted the snow off of her shoulders, making it slide down her shoulders, and fall to the ground. I watched it melt, and finally, the little lump of snow was gone. I looked over to my right, and saw one of the orphans screaming, and demanding for a certain red lego back. I frowned and walked over to them. It was slightly obvious they were younger than me, however, most of the group of orphans didn't have a name or know their age, or birthday. Thankfully, I did. I was older than most of the other orphans, which meant that the councilors could always say "Be a good rolemodel, Aceite." and I couldn't argue. I wasn't much of the arguing type. I never thought it would help, and always knew it just made things - especially relationships - worse. I go by a couple of my friends' experience. They always got a longer, and longer, and longer timeout, the more they interupted and argued. The women moved away from the front desk, and stared at us, orphans. She looked like as if she was inspecting them. She pointed her index finger at me, and the councilor by the front desk nodded. I looked at her, confused. She smiled and walked away. She started handing some $10 bills to the councilor and they both smiled at each other, and waved, as the women left. I felt another cold breeze brush against me as the door shifted open, then slammed again, from the harsh winds outside. I smiled and turned around to see another orphan behind me. I jumped, and then suddenly smiled, feeling embarrassed. She smiled back and held out her hand. She looked as though she was probably a year younger than me. I shook her hand.
"Ha-lo. I'm E. Who are you?" she said, grinning from ear to ear. If you were put into an orphanage before you were named, you were given a letter name and that was to always be your name. It wasn't just a random letter, however. It goes by in order. The first orphan to arrive unnamed, was named A, then the next orphan was B, then C, and so on, and so on.
"Hi, E. I'm Aceite." I let go of her hands and wiped the sweat off onto my bright orange shirt. E gasped and stared at me.
"So, you're the girl everyone talks about?" she exclaimed. I gave a puzzled look. People talk about me?
"What do you mean?"
She rubbed her chin and smiled. "Don't worry, no secrets or talking behind your back. Everyone just knows you as the girl who has stayed here the longest, without being adopted." Her smile widened, as if she felt like she was impressing a celebtrity. I chuckled.
"Yeah, that's me."

I wrinkled my nose as the stench of old cheese stood in the air. I plugged my nose wuth my thumb and index finger. I opened my mouth slightly to breath through there. I walked foward towards the table and tried to pick it up and share it with all of the gross-looking mice that were scurrying through out the hallways, and rooms of the orphanage. However, the cheese was so old, that it was stuck to the table. My stomach started to lurch, and for a moment, I felt as if I needed to vomit. Thankfully, I never did.
"I would wash your hands, if I were you." said a girl, named J. I spun around and faced her, startled that she was watching me.
"I was planning to." I said, trying not to show anger. She was tne rudest orphan here. She always had her way of getting people to do what she wants. I never liked her in the first place, anyways. She gave me a sleek smile.
"Good."
I raised an eyebrow at her and she walked away, her smile widening from ear to ear. I started to bite my lip. I always ended up biting my lip whenever I was nervous, however, 70% of the time I do it, I don't know why I feel nervous. My stomach lurched and gurgled. Maybe I was just hungry. I glanced at the alarm clock we have on our fridge. It went off at snack time, and everyone joined at the table to collect some snacks to eat. The table was a short red table, with pictures of Dora and Spider-Man in the middle. My lip started to bleed and I wiped my mouth. Oh well.
I felt shiver run through me again, as a gust of chilled air flew into the room, from the front door swinging open. It was the same women. She walked up to the front desk, and I stared. I placed my ear against the glass wall, trying to hear what they were saying. I only caught a couple words. "Finally", "thank you", "watch", "blessed", and "yes". She held out a $20 bill, and the the councilor traded with a tape. She smiled and walked out, glancing at me, and a couple other children.
In the corner of my eye, I saw a girl walk in with one of our councilors. She must've been a new orphan who was joining this orphanage. She was short, with green eyes, and very dark brown hair. She looked about my age. She walked through the glass door and sighed. I smiled at her and decided to introduce myself. After all, it's what they say. Friendship starts with just one simple "Hi". She glanced up at me, and after she finally assumed I was walking towards her, she grinned a little bit. I stopped in front of her.
"Hey . ." I said, trying to sound friendly, and reassuring. She looked terrified until I said 'hey".
"H-Hey. What's your name?" she said, looking more reassured. She had black tights on and a clean white blouse, with some low-heel black flats. She looked like she was a dancer.
"I'm Aceite, who are you?"
"Yushi. But, you can just call me Yush." she said, and her face went red. I smiled at her, trying to reassure her. Maybe she and I could be friends. I mean, we looked alike, and she seems about my age. All the other kids are like, babies, and toddlers. They can't even communicate with me. Yushi, however, can.
"Nice to meet you," I held out my hand. She hesitated, and then she slowly put her hand out, shaking. She grabbed my hand slowly. She started to speed up and smile as she felt more comfortable with me. I returned the smile.

It's been a week, and Yushi and I have been getting along well. The councilors decided to install a camera into our rooms - or just mine. I'm not sure, because we're not allowed to enter anyone's rooms but ours. I would ask Yushi, however, because of the cameras, they can hear us and every word we say, and I don't want to be the first to get in trouble with these new cameras. For te last week, we've had a shortage on food, so each day we could only have one cup of porridge for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, on Sundays, we got oatmeal for breakfast, a granola bar for lunch, and shepherd's pie for dinner. Most orphanages in our area, only get one meal a day, so, we're pretty lucky! Currently, we were sitting in the cafeteria, scarfing down on porridge. I sat up and tossed my empty bowl into the garbage and tossed Yushi's for her. Yushi was actually 7 years old, while I was only 6, but hey, better than a 4 year old. Am I right?
There was a sound, that sounded something like thunder. Everyone sat up in shocked, and some screamed, or hid behind someone. Yushi and I were just looking out in the sky, looking for the lighting, out of the window that was nearby the trashcan.
"Everyone listen up!" a councilor stuck his hand in the sky, warning everyone to shush. Everyone else raised there hands to show they were listening. The councilor looked around to make sure everyone was listening. No lightning. "It seems to be that we are going to have a lockdown! You know the drill!"
Everyone started whispering and panicing, and hiding under windows where you couldn't be seen, and closing curtains, and turning off lights. The councilor glared at a few of the toddlers that were making the most noise and instantly stopped even whispering. Finally, everyone was hidden. Yushi and I were hiding under a window, so that we couldn't be seen. Yushi tried to turn off the lights but H, pushed her and turned them off instead. Yushi, was most likely hurt because she limped over to me to hide. I wanted to ask her how she was but the councilor gave me a look that showed me not to talk. I glanced at Yushi, giving her the are-you-okay look, and she nodded and looked down, hugging her knees. She was scared. I could tell.
There was another strike of thunder - Wait, there was no lightning. So how was there thunder? What else could that be? My eyes widened. Gunshot.
I looked at Yushi with a look of terror. And then there was a scream. The councilor's eyes widened and quickly ran to the door that leaded outside from the cafeteria. He quickly shoved everyone outside, and told them to run as far as they could. There was more screaming, and then gunshots started to rapidly fire. Yushi grabbed my hand and ran as fast as she could.
"Don't look back." she managed to say as she kept huffing and puffing, and continued to run. I wanted to convince myself that this was a nightmare, but to no avail . . .

This is reality
