Chapter Three
I groaned as I awoke. My head hurt like it had been kicked in the head by a horse. I sat there for a few minutes truly for no reason. As I sat, the feeling in my arms and shoulders began to hurt.
I feebly tried to move my arms from behind me but I couldn't. My eyes snapped open. I was in a small room with me in a chair and a table in front of me. The rest of the room was bare except for the door on the others side of the room.
I needed to get out of here an reach the rest of the pack, especially Kampala for I have not forgotten what she has done me. I struggled against my bindings, the metal biting into my skin. I couldn't use my powers for the fear of the humans finding out who I was. Before I had left. Eclipse had told me about this contraction called a camera.
It aloud you to see other surroundings without ever being there. It worked closely like our border patrols well just without the patrol. I kept struggling against my bonds only to find it useless. I without my powers could not loosen the restraint. I sighed when I realized that I had only one option that I was willing to take.
I broke my wrist quickly sliding them out of the restraints. I snapped my bones back in place as I stood. I was glad Forge had taught me that trick a few months back. I remember how I groped about the uselessness of it. Well now I see the light. I flexed my hand experimentally to see if all the bones were in place then headed toward the door.
As I reached it I heard voices on the other side. "-Check on that scythe woman," said the voice, getting progressively closer to my door. I growled softly in agitation. I wanted to be out of here but couldn't since these mangy humans were in the way. I swiftly headed back toward my chair placing my hands behind me just as the door opened and humans shuffled in.
They were in black suits and had a chain around their necks with an ID that read Dept of Secret Services. Two the of the humans were male while the last one was female. "Oh, so it seems that our guest has awakened," said the older man. I guessed he was the leader since the other humans hung back behind him. He was in complete control of the room.
"Would you mind telling me why you and your friends were carrying artillery in the city without a permit?"
I kept quiet. I had no reason to answer this human. He was of lower status to me so why should I head his words. He was nothing compared to me.
"Where did you come from? Are you not from here? Do you understand me?"
He asked me all of these questions and I stayed quiet. He would get nothing out of me.
"Kenye, she's not going to answer you," said the other man. He was a smart one. I could already tell it.
"How do you know that she's not going to answer?" the one called Kenye asked.
"Because if she wanted to she would have already!" yelled the man.
"I agree with Kody," said the woman. "She's not budging."
"Then what would you have me do?" asked Kenye.
"Maybe torture," said the woman with a sideglance at me. She was already starting to tick me off. Who in their right minds thought of torture? Were we in the middle ages or something."
"That is not the answer," Kenye said shaking his head.
"Then what do you think it is?" asked Kody.
"Kindness and understanding,"
"What?!" laughed the woman. "That only exist in fairy tales!"
"Yeah Evelyn is right," agreed Kody. "In this world ambiton is the only thing that matters. Like Julius Ceasar we will climb the ladder of existence and make our way to the top, stepping on all those who are either too weak or are in our way,"
"Ambition is the key," continued Evelyn. " Those without this will be trampled and ran over in this race to the top. That is the way of the world."
This right here is why I hate humans. How can we, the Arcanes, put our trust in them when they can not even trust themselves. They turn on each other and fight for what they could share. They have lost the true meaning of strength and power. All except that man called Kenye. He was different.
"You will never learn, will you," said Kenye.
"What do you mean old man?" asked Kody.
"Nothing," sighed Kenye. "Just go,"
Evelyn and Kody left the room muttering among themselves. It was something between how Kenye was an idiot and how his time has ended.
"They will never learn will they?" muttered Kenye more to himself than to me.
"Until they are ready," I said quietly.
