Chapter 3

A Message

I wake up feeling numb. I turn my head slowly to the side ignoring the pain to see Izzy sitting beside my bed crying. I try to ask what’s wrong but I cannot get my mouth to cooperate with me. To form the words of my most desire to hear. Last night wasn’t real. Lucius is downstairs right now, making me breakfast and is going to come up any moment, right? I finally get the words from my brain to my mouth and ask Izzy, “Was last night… Real?”

She tries to smile at me. I can easily tell that its forced. “Allie, I’m so sorry,” She said looking down at the floor and frowning. I put my head on the center of my pillow again and look up at the ceiling. I feel my cheeks getting wet as I cry. The salty tears run down the side of my face onto my blue pillow.

Izzy started to speak again, “Allie, do you know what day it is?”

“It’s the thirtieth of August.” I said simply through the tears.

“No, Allie. It’s been a week since that night. It’s September the fifth.”

“But, I couldn’t have been asleep for that long!” I said shocked.

“You got hit really hard by that carriage Allie. You went into a coma. You might’ve died!” Izzy said with tears in her eyes.

“I’m sorry for worrying you,” I say quietly still staring at the ceiling. I think back to last night, well last week, about Lucius. I can’t believe he would play me like that. I actually truly sincerely loved him and I thought it was mutual. I scowled my hurt replaced with anger and vengeance. I sit straight up in my bed preparing to go confront him but gasp from the pain that shot through my body and fall right back down on my bed trying to catch my breath.

“Allie, please stay lying down. You need to heal before you get up to walk around.” Izzy said in a concerning. “If you need anything just tell me or Sebastian and we’ll get it for you.”

You can’t get me what I really want I thought bitterly. I smiled and thanked Izzy for her kindness and asked her if I could have some alone time for a bit.

“Sure thing Al, just ring me if you need anything,” She said as she set a bell on my nightstand. “I’ll be in the guest room across the hall. Have a good sleep.”

I roll onto my side in my bed and think about my life so far. I feel like everyone hates me except Izzy and Sebastian. Isabelle Marie Seresky, she’s been my best friend since I can remember. Sebastian Daniel Michaelis, he’s been there for me as long as I can remember. They’re the best things that have ever happened in my life. That’s the last thing I thought before I fell asleep.

It’s October 29th today. It’s been two whole months since that terrible night. It may sound weird, a master helping their servant, but I’m helping Sebastian with the housework because of my recuperation. I have to admit it is very boring and time taking but I actually enjoy housework. It’s fun to spend some time with Sebastian too. I was just about to start up the stairs to clean the windows when I heard someone knock on the front door. Sebastian was in the kitchen cooking so I figure I should go open the door. I put down the cleaning supplies on the steps and walk quickly towards the door. I open the door quickly fearing they may have already left. I look out the door and see Allen, one of the queen’s servants, standing outside. “Allen, what a surprise. What can I do for you today?” I asked politely.

Allen bowed and handed me an envelope addressed to me from the queen. “A message from the Queen, Almira. Please open it as soon as you have the time. Thank you.” He bowed again and left.
