Chapter 6
Red
I wake up in a semi bad mood because of what happened last night. Izzy is pretty much my best friend and she’s dating the boy who took me and used me and pretty much slapped me in the face with the truth. I sigh and get out of my super comfortable bed and over to the wardrobe to pick out my outfit for the day. I pick out a pretty red dress with gold trimming and black stockings. I put everything on and head over to my dresser and pick up my hairbrush and gently start brushing my hair. I look in the mirror at myself and think about the past events. I swear on my life, if Lucius ever hurts Izzy, he is dead. I’m so glad Sebastian was there. He’s the one person I can always count on. I walk down stairs feeling kind of weak and light headed and head where my senses tell me to go. The fragrant smell of biscuits, fruit, and tea linger in the air and I end up in the kitchen where I see Sebastian placing food on a plate and filling a cup with tea. He placed it on the table and set the silverware in their correct positions. He was so involved with making everything look perfect he didn’t even notice me walk in. “Hi Sebastian,” I said. He jumped out of shock and looked over at me.
“I’m sorry Allie. I didn’t notice you come in,” he said looking at the floor as a blush crept up his neck. I giggled thinking how cute he was when he did that. I then burst out into fits of hysterical laughter. “Wh-What’s so f-f-funny?!” He asked stuttering. He stutters when he nervous and it’s so cute.
“Oh. Nothing. Nothing at all,” I say before I burst into another laughing fit. All of a sudden my laugh turns into a gut wrenching cough and I’m forced to bend over and get down on one knee. I cover my mouth with my hand and feel something splash onto my hand.
“Allie! What’s wrong?!” Sebastian asked and went down next to me on the floor and put his arms around me steadying me. The coughing fit slowed and I took my hand away from my mouth. I look at it and see the same red as my dress is now on my hand. Blood.
“Sebastian?” I said questioningly in a whining way. He picked me up onto my feet and kept one arm around me to help me carry my weight. He led us over to the coat rack and he put my coat on me and then got his own on. “I’m tired Sebastian,” I say with my eyes half closed. I’m so very, very tired. I don’t think I can stay awake much longer. We head out the door and to the carriage.
“Everything’s going to be fine Allie. Go to sleep and when you wake up I’m sure you will feel all better,” Sebastian smiled and lifted me into the carriage. He looked so doubtful and worried I wanted to tell him, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be all right.’ I couldn’t though. I didn’t have the strength to. I quickly drifted off into a black, dreamless sleep. One of emptiness and a feeling of infinite finality.
“Doctor, will she be alright?” I heard a voice ask in the distance. It sounded familiar but I couldn’t recognize it.
“I’m not sure. We don’t know what could be causing this and if she gets any weaker, coughs up large amounts of blood, or doesn’t wake up, which it’s been two days since she’s fallen asleep. Well then, there’s almost no doubt she will die from this.” A different voice answered.
I opened my eyelids slowly and look at the two men standing by my bed. One was Sebastian and one was a doctor whom I figure Sebastian has called him in since I heard the doctor say it’s been two days since I fell asleep. I feel Sebastian’s hand in mine and I smile. I try to squeeze it, to reassure that I’ll be fine, but I am unable to. The doctor leaves and doesn’t even glance at me. No one knows I’m awake. Sebastian turns around once the doctor has left and finally notices I’m awake.
“Allie, you’re awake,” he said with a sad smile, his eyes tearing a bit.
“Yes, I am,” my voice comes out a whisper. “Sebastian, I just want you to know how much you mean to me. You raised me, cared for me, was there for me when no one else was. I love you Sebastian. More than a brother. My love for you is as bright as the stars in the heavens above. I love you Sebastian.”
“Allie,” his voice cracked and a single tear rolled down his cheek. “I love you too.” He pulled something out of his pocket and held it in his fist. “Will you marry me?” He asked and slipped the ring onto my finger.
“Of course I will,” I smile full of joy even if my body is in such terrible shape.
Sebastian leaned over and kissed me. It was the best kiss I ever had. “Thank you Allie. Can I get you anything? Anything at all that will make you feel better?”
“Well, I could use some tea,” I said putting on my best smile.
“Alright, are you sure that’s it Allie?” asked Sebastian, my love.
“Yes, I’m sure,” with that Sebastian headed to the door. “Wait one more thing Sebastian. I love you and nothing can ever change that.”
“I love you too Allie,” He said smiling and walked out the door.
I look up at the white ceiling that I have stared at so many times before. I think about my life so far and all of the great things that have happened in it. Especially Sebastian. I truly love that man. That’s my final thought as I drift into a sleep I will never wake from.
