{June 1887, Morning}
The darkness had surrounded me and everything seemed to be calm. No worries, nothing to hold me back.
"Hana..."
A familiar voice called to me, her words sweet and warm.
"Mother?"
It felt so close yet I had no idea where it came from.
"Don't worry dear, it's good here..."
Somehow her words began to feel distant, what was she talking about.
"Wait mother!"
I felt scared, scared she would leave me. the further I ran the more her voice seemed to fade. A wave of sadness and sorrow flushed over me, my eyes tearing up.
"Hana, stay strong, you have a bigger quest to follow now..."
Why does it feel like she's saying goodbye, what does this mean. My memories began to recall all the good bits of my childhood, how she made me smile when I had fallen and her sweet thee that I didn't like but pretended to.
"Mother, don't go!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once I've opened my eyes I got greeted by some familiar blue eyes. "Are you alright?" His voice so calm and soothing. tears formed into my eyes when I knew what just happened.
I ignored the pain in my back and rushed forward, my arms folding around his surprisingly muscular body. "Heisuke..." The tears didn't stop, everything I was holding back began to flow out. I knew what this dream meant, what had happened at home.
I didn't want to believe it, but I couldn't deny this feeling of knowing. she had passed, I was to slow. it was all my fault that she died, alone and unmoving.
I felt Heisuke shift under my grasp, unsure of what to do or what was going on. Maybe I was selfish to embrace him like this when he had no clue on what was going through me.
"Oh, should I come back?" The voice of the first division's captain came soon after the sound of a door sliding open. the way we were sitting must look quite strange. even so my teared eyes just looked at him pleading not to go further with his joke.
"What's going on here?" He continued. "Tell me, she just woke up like this." Heisuke sounded a bit scared and confused, but I wouldn't let him go. scared that if I did everything would come flying back to me. "So you took advantage when she was sleeping, how low of you." Heisuke flinched, I knew that wasn't true, but Okita just couldn't leave his words at that.
"So..." The captain pulled down. "What is going on?" I had stopped crying for a second, but his sweet words and gentle smile brought everything back.
"She's gone, I was to slow and let her die alone..." It was hard to go further after that, but I tried. The words not making any sense. The both of them just sat there, not even moving or breathing it seemed.
"Don't cry, we're here for you." Quickly pushing back into his chest I cried my heart out. It must have seemed shameful, crying into a man's chest like this, but for now I just wanted to cry and not think about anything else. After a while the pain began to come back to me, my back aching and my head hurting. I was scared again, this feeling hit me before, that was why I laid here. I didn't know what was going on with me, everything became dark again.
