After pulling her out of the snow, Noel scooped her frail body into his arms and strided down the vacant streets. She scrunched her nose before burying her face into his chest and wrapping her arms around his neck. Noel hesitated for a moment, and his body went stiff. It had been ages since he had felt the warmth of another body. He felt his knees go weak whenever her warm fingers brushed against his colorless skin, but he continued to march through the snow, determined to get her out of the frosty weather of December.

Noel stared at her exposed neck and reprimanded himself for the thoughts that raced through his head. Don't think about her like that, he thought to himself, opening the door to his apartment studio. He gently placed her on his bed and covered her with a thick layer of blankets. Noel was unsure of what to do next; it was his first time having a girl inside of his apartment.

"Quin," she softly muttered, squirming under the covers. Noel kneeled down and shifted himself closer to the sleeping girl. Her breaths tickled his collarbone as he listened to her incoherent mumbles. Soon, the room became silent, and he noticed that her body was still, almost lifeless. Noel slowly inched back, knowing what would happen next. A pair of sterling gray eyes darted around the room. He watched as her breathing became frantic and her body trembled slightly. Noel could hear her heartbeat accelerating and the scratching sound of her nails digging into the sheets. He felt an ache in his chest once he realizing that she was terrified of him.

" I won't hurt you," he whispered, instantaneously backing off.

She cautiously scanned him over. First, she stared into his amber gold eyes, which were rimmed by long, transparent lashes. Noel ran his fingers through his hair; it was pure white and styled into a side swept undercut. She noticed that his skin was also colorless. It was pasty but not ghastly, and his hollow cheeks were painted with light freckles. Then, she studied his body. He towered over her, and his legs seemed to trail on forever.

Noel waited patiently for her to calm down. He locked eyes with her again, but this time he stared into ocean blue eyes. Noel blinked several times in confusion. Maybe it's just the light, he pondered, unconsciously leaning closer to her.

"I'm Noel Aster. What's your name?" He asked, casually reaching out his hand. She looked at him skeptically.

" Kaita Hayes," she answered, shaking his cold palm. There was an eerie feeling that surfaced when she gripped his hand. It was as if they had met before. Surely she had known, or thought she'd known, that they already knew each other. However, her thoughts were muddled and clouded by a thick fog.

" Kaita, where do you live? Let me take you home," Noel offered.

Kaita stared at him in horror, realizing that she couldn't remember where home was. She closed her eyes and tried to recall the appearance of her house, but her mind went blank. She urged herself to remember the faces of her family members, but to little avail. She choked out a cry, realizing that she couldn't even remember her mother's name. There was a gaping hole inside of her mind; her memories faded into oblivion.
