A Lady in White
A lady in white, fell in love
Her story started, beneath a dove.
He presented to her, a silver ring
Without thinking - what it might bring.
He kneeled, holding a dear secret
Whispering, “Marry me, Margaret.”
The wedding bells chimed loudly away
As they were spirited to a sandy bay
She smiled with her lovely lips
Blowing a kiss as he touched her hips
Now, into their own world of bliss
All it takes is just some protection
Not just some showcase of affection
All it takes is just some blood
Not just some razor or godly treatment
This might be too heavy to reckon,
In just a thousand twenty seconds.
A lady in white, now down and broken
Her story ends, now so soft-spoken
Her loved ones, alarmed and awoken
Her eyes, holding back a secret hidden:
“Please don’t leave me, my Brandon.”
The red sirens honked blusteringly
Her eyes staring at him longingly
But he turned and stepped out the door
And now all that’s left is her on the floor
Oh, the melancholy, the distress she abhorred
All it takes is just some honesty
Not just one’s high dignity
All it takes is just a pill or two
Not just some incision, or a death sentence for you
But then again this might be too heavy to reckon,
In just a thousand twenty seconds.
The lady in white, now filled with fright
The rashes underneath her gown of white.
Three simple words: “I have HIV”
The attention, no one would envy
Her days might be quite numbered,
But her baby was what mattered
One percent, that was the number
She was now a belligerent hoper
There, outside the window frames,
The world revolves a hundred times.
Then they finally took her into the room -
All it takes is just some understanding
Not just some crazy escaping
All it takes is just a simple consultation
Not just some operative negotiation
Something now not too heavy to reckon,
In just a thousand twenty seconds.
The lady in white, now red at night
Pushed hard with all her might
The nurses, cladded with masks
Her world now, all but a whirlwind’s blur
But a baby’s cry, all that’s needed to bring her luster
The world is always changing
The people around her constantly moving
But the lady in white is now a mother
The lucky child, now safe and sound
Even if she has naught a father
All it takes is just reassuring acknowledgment
Not just some counterfeit trepidation
All it takes is just a few new habits
Not a sudden curse into a patient’s doom
Something new for you to reckon,
In less than a thousand twenty seconds.
