Deborah pressed the door bell of 12, Park Street, three-room flat that she shared with her friends Leah and Michelle. Since it was close to her office, she used to live here and went to her parents' house every weekend. Also, sharing a flat with her school friend Leah was icing on the cake, even though they had to bear Michelle, but had no other option as Michelle's industrialist dad paid half their rent. Anyway, the house was mostly vacant now-a-days, as all the occupants came late from work and just used the place to sleep.
As Debbie waited for the door to be opened, her mind wandered off to the dreadful day at office. Dylan's arrival as the CEO of the company, wrecked havoc in her peaceful, unnoticed existence at office. Now, every turn she took in the corridors, and every lift door that opened, made her heart zoom to 1000 beats per minute... Suppose she bumps into him.. what if he tells everyone about her secrets? No that'd be ridiculous! Calm down Debbie! but what if he sacks you? Remember you told him, that you faked your Math and French grades on your CV!! OMG.. this is the only job which I have enjoyed in years! Please make him forget that he's ever met me!! Please God!
She had spend the whole day worrying and looking around anxiously, hoping against hope that he'll just vanish somewhere.. and she won't see him again! Maybe I should dye my hair,.. or what about plastic surgery? They do it in movies all the time!! Or maybe I should leave this country and live in and igloo in Antarctica! But one thing's sure I'll never ever open my mouth in front of strangers again!
But by the end of the day, she heard rumours that since Dylan himself in an investigating journalist, he is more interested in the print media and newspaper section... the TV news will be handled by his assistant, though he'll be keeping a close eye on this department too. Phew! Debbie gave a huge sigh of relief as she rushed out of her office building at six, her head ducked in a newspaper, avoiding all eye contact, lest she bumps into that guy with the mesmerizing blue-green eyes ~ my CEO!
The door opened and Debbie was met with a huge blast of perfume.. she wrinkled her nose, just as she was pulled in by an excited Michelle. Michelle planted a smacking kiss on Debbie's cheek and said, "Debbie darling! How are you?? so you know what Robert asked me out and yayyyy.... I'm sooo excited! Byeee!!!", she said while slipping into her insanely high heels, picking up the car keys and shutting the door on Debbie's startled face.
"Uh.. okay! I'm fine too!", Debbie said to the closed door! She sighed, kicked off her boots and made her way to the overcrowded sofa in the living room. Leah was siiting on a couch, her legs folded under her bum, peering into her laptop, her specs perched on her nose. Only 23 and one of the most successful laywers in the city.. way mature than her age!
"hey bitch!", she said without lifting her gaze from the laptop.
"hey slut!", Debbie replied. Both girls burst into giggles. "Oh My God Debbie.. we're still the same! It's like we never came out of high school!", Leah said, glancing up from the lappie, giving her best smile that she reserved for her bestie Debbie and then looked down again, frowning at the screen. Damn this stupid client!
"Oh speak for yourself... I'm glad high school's over!", Debbie sighed again. The day's events had made her very tired, not just mentally but physically as well..
Leah gave a snort of involuntary laughter.
"you know Leah, what happened? There was this guy I met in plane and...."
Before she could complete her sentence, Leah shut her laptop, picked up a bowl of chips, sat down beside Deborah and said breathlessly, "what guy?? tell me fast! NOW NOW NOW!!! omg a guy! you met a guy in plane!! I want to here everything.. each single detail.. what happened between you two??"
