Hardware is a physical object that is in one way or another related to computers. Look at any electronic item. It could be a computer, a phone, a game console, a TV, or something else. Whatever it is, it's made up of hardware. All the pieces to it are hardware.

Software is not physical, although it may come on a physical object like a disc or a flash drive. Software is data and code written in a certain way to have a certain purpose. Games are an example of software. Browsers and media players are also software. Apps on your phone are software.

Hardware and software are not at all alike, but software is very dependant on hardware. And some (not all) hardware is even dependant on software.
