A peripheral is a piece of hardware that you likely use every day. Peripherals are not inside your computer and can easily be connected or disconnected. Peripherals have certain functions like controlling certain things. The most common types of peripherals are a keyboard and mouse. These are the most commonly used peripherals for PC gaming. And many people will tell you not to use a controller, but if that's what you're comfortable with, then use a controller. And controllers are typically better for emulating, most games you will be emulating were designed to be used with a controller. And using a mouse and keyboard can just feel awkward to some people, especially those new to PC gaming who are used to console gaming.
