(You get the drill.)(Oh yeah, I don't really know how old he is here, but younger than he is in the present day... Like, 8? That would mean he's 8 in the last chapter, but he has a phone.... I DONUT KNOW)
I sat there, squeezing my Mom's hand. She was lying weakly in a hospital bed, her pulse beeping every so often. She... She was so pale.
"Hey, Mom?" I managed to squeak.
"Y-Yes, Adrien?" She whispered.
"Dad... Dad said you were going to go to a better place..." I murmured. "Where's that?"
"Up there." She pointed meekly to the ceiling.
"Upstairs?"
"No." She laughed quietly. "Up into the sky."
"Can we come visit you?" I asked. Mom started sobbing softly.
"I-I'm afraid not." She sniffed. "Look, I need to tell you something before I leave, okay?"
"...O-Okay."
"One day, you're going to meet a girl. She'll be everything you've ever dreamed of."
"But girls have cooties, Mom. EVERYONE knows that!" I frowned.
"Not ALL girls." She faintly smiled at me, coughing slightly. "This one will be very pretty. She'll always be there for you."
"Okay... Where are you going with this?"
"You have to promise me something, okay?" Her piercing green eyes stared into mine.
"...Alright."
"Take good care of her. Treat her well."
"Of course I will, Mom." I smiled at her. "Always."
"Have you *cough* heard of the saying, 'If you love her, let her go'?"
"Isn't it in that one pop song?" I asked her.
"...Yes." She replied. "Don't do that."
"What? Why...?"
"If you love her, hold on to her. As long as she's happy with you."
"Mom... What's the point in this?"
"Adrien." I heard my Dad's stern voice from across the room. "It's time we left."
"But, I'm not-"
"ADRIEN AGRESTE. DO NOT TEST MY PATIENCE." He growled at me. I expected Mom to do something. She was supposed to say "Gabriel, calm down." Instead, she frowned.
"Do what your father tells you, Adrien." She smiled. I quickly hugged her and scurried out the room. Before I left, though, Mom called out to me.
"Adrien?" I turned around.
"Take care of yourself, okay? And don't forget your promise."
"I promise I will not forget my promise!" I smiled and saluted jokingly. She laughed, louder this time.
"I love you, my little Cinnamon Roll."
"I love you too, Mommy." Who knew that was the last time I would ever hear her laugh.
