Predator

Part 3

I opened my eyes slowly, my vision slightly blurred. I shot up when I realised what had happened to me. Ward, he was going to get me. I'd be consumed by darkness and he'd finally have me. I couldn't let that happen, I couldn't let him win!

"Jess!" Daisy ran in quickly sitting next to me. "Jess, calm down" She tried soothing me but I was panicking. I didn't want him to have me!

"W...Ward"

"He's not here Jess" Daisy gently pushed me down so I was laying. "The fog got you, it got us all. You and Hunter reacted badly to the effects of it. I need you to breathe okay, just calm down" I took some deep breaths trying to calm myself down as I focused on Daisy. She wouldn't let Ward take me that easily. The fog would explain a lot, especially why Daisy was doing what she was doing.

"Why were you popping bubbles?" I asked trying to take my own mind of the nightmare I experienced. "When I saw you, you stood there laughing whilst popping something" I smiled slightly at her making her laugh.

"I was playing a game. You pop the bubbles and get prizes" She shrugged not knowing what she was on about. "It seemed funny at the time"

"I wish I was playing a game like that" I laughed a little looking around. "How did they find us?"

"You passed out, me and Hunter were weak but we still had some energy left in us. You hit your head on a pipe Jess" I frowned slightly as I touched my head making me wince. "Hunter said you literally just ran into it, froze on the ground and started screaming and crying" She placed her hand on mine gently. "Do you want to talk about what you saw?" I did, I really did but I didn't want to worry everyone, I wanted to prove I was fit for the field work and if they saw me like this, weak, they'd definitely shove me to the back.

"I just saw Ward" I shrugged. "I was paralyzed and I was annoyed because I couldn't kick his ass"

"I think we'd all be annoyed" She smiled but looked at me unsure. "Anything else?"

"Nope, I just couldn't see much which is why I ran straight into a pole. Anyway, you said Hunter experienced the bad effects of it? Where is he?"

"Bobbi's with him, he won't tell anyone what he saw" She whispered standing up. "He seemed quite upset and I'm guessing it had something to do with you because I couldn't move when the hallucinations stopped, the only thing I could do was call for Coulson to help us. Hunter managed to crawl over to you with literally no energy in him. Something shook him up" She explained to me and I looked down sadly. I wonder if he saw me die? I mean, that'd destroy him. 

"I'll have to talk to him when he's a little better" I whispered. "If he's still shaken up I daren't see him, he might freak out and...Hug me" I pulled a face making her laugh a little at me. "Hunter's strong, he'll pull through" 

"Just like you did" As soon as she said that Mack walked through the door, he shot us both a worried look before gesturing Daisy to follow him.

"Jess is part of the team Mack, you may as well tell us both now" She watched him as he sighed slowly and sat down next to her. He looked at me worried again before nodding.

"We've been keeping an eye on the inhuman, after the encounter with you he's gone off the grid. We fear Hydra's gotten to him" 

"How do you know it's Hydra?" I asked.

"Because we caught them on CCTV pursuing him" Daisy suddenly stormed off and Mack sighed softly looking at me. "Daisy's upset because she feels the need to protect the inhumans, especially from Hydra. That's why she went after him" 

"Hydra always ruins everything"

"You can say that again. I'm gonna go see if she's alright, will you be okay on your own?" He raised an eyebrow at me, standing up slowly. I nodded, flashing him a cheesy fake smile as he chuckled and walked away. 

What would Hydra want with the inhuman? How were they so close to us without us realising? Has Ward been watching us? Watching our every move? They have something we want and for Daisy's sake we need to get him back. Unfortunately, I know what Ward wants. He wants me and with the fog on his side he can easily take me. He'd have to lure us out though, set a trap first...Unless we're prepared, unless I'm bait.  That'd work, play him at his own game. 

I slowly got out of the bed I was in and made my way to Coulson's office. He'd be hesitant, he'd know that Lance would be against this but he knows this will work. There would be a huge chance that Ward would be there, waiting for me but it was a risk I'd have to take.

I knocked on Coulson's door until I heard his voice and walked in. He looked at me confused at first but then sat down waiting for me to speak.

"We need that inhuman back. I don't trust Hydra with him. We need to bring him here and get rid of Hydra and I think I know how"

"I'm not going to like this idea, am I?" He asked and I shook my head at him.

"You're going to use me as bait" He tried to cut me off but I gestured him to wait for me to finish. "If I go in first, lure them out Shield can come in quickly, unexpectedly and take Hydra out. The fog must be airborne so we wear masks to protect ourselves from it"

"It's too risky Jess..."

"It's our only chance. We set a trap or they do it first. If we wait, they'll make us come to them and then things will go south. If we act now, set a trap first we might have a chance" I tried explaining to him but he looked unsure. "I trust you guys to have my back, let me gain your trust" 

"Fine" He stood up slowly, walking over to me. "But you listen to what I tell you, follow every order and if things do take a turn for the worse you fall back, you get to safety and we pull back" I nodded at him, smiling a little. "One condition, you have to tell Hunter" He smiled and mine faded away. Great, that'll be fun telling him. He'd shout, he'd kick off and I'd have to stand there and take it. At least I was doing what was best for Shield, it was our only shot at getting the inhuman back and safe. It was the one chance I could prove myself to everyone.
