Jessica's POV:

I couldn't believe that I was stuck in this situation again. Lance would definitely kill me if Hydra didn't. Thankfully Ward had to leave to speak to someone, probably the head of Hydra. I was thankful for that because If I spent one more minute with Ward I would've smashed the glass open resulting in the guards killing me. I couldn't stand him and yet he wouldn't let me go.

The doors to the room suddenly opened and two guards walked in accompanied by Ward who was close behind. I watched them as they walked straight to my cell and opened the doors taking their guns out ready. Even Ward had his gun out.

I was going to die. They were actually going to kill me. I stepped back, hitting the back of the glass as they all stepped in. Lance would find out and he'd be distraught, he'd be reckless and uncontrollable. No one would be able to get through to him, not even Bobbi and I'd be gone.

"Let's just kill this Shield scum and get on with our mission" One of the guards told the other one as they both raised their guns, facing me. I closed my eyes tight ready for the bullets to pierce through me.

I never thought I'd die like this, not surrounded by people I hated. I thought I'd always die of old age, or like my parents a sudden tragedy. Nothing about this was right, nothing about this was fair but I was helpless. I never even told Lance that I was thankful for having him around or that I loved him. I never thanked Daisy for helping me when no one else understood me. I never got to experience even half the joys life has to offer.

The only good thing to come from this is that I'd see my parents again. I'm not sure whether they would be proud of me or not. I haven't been the strongest, I haven't been the most brave but I've always seemed to got through a tough situation, apart from this one of course. I waited for the bullets of death to take me away where I could be in peace finally.

Then there was a gunshot, followed swiftly by two more. I felt no pain, I felt nothing. Was this death? Surely I should have felt something? I opened my eyes slowly expecting to see my parents standing there, smiling at me surrounded by a comforting light but all I saw was Ward.

"Is this hell" The words escaped my lips and I stared in awe until my eyes lingered to two lifeless bodies on the floor.

"We have to go. Now" Ward ordered me but I was kinda frozen on the spot. I didn't know whether I should of felt happy or miserable. I just traded death, the imagine my parents to live in hell with Ward. He gave me no choice, he made the choice for me.  "Jess!" He snapped me out of my thoughts and I shook my head until he grabbed my arm and dragged me out walking out the room door.

An alarm rang through the corridors and heavy footsteps started approaching from all directions. Ward made sure I was behind him at all times as we headed into the corridor and towards what I presume to be the exit.

"Why?" I asked but he ignored me, firing gunshots at the Hydra agents coming our way. He was too busy killing which obviously he loved to do, yet he wouldn't kill me. I was his enemy, he should've killed me yet he saved me, It didn't make any sense. I suppose I was a toy to him, he wasn't prepared to let his favourite toy go so easily.

"We need to keep moving, you need to stay behind me" He ordered me again and all I did was nod. I felt like giving up and letting him win but after how he made me feel last time...I just couldn't do that to myself again.

"Give me a gun and I can help" I whispered and he shook his head dragging me off again. I could help, I could also just kill him which would be a lovely thought. I knew that wasn't possible though, I couldn't handle Hydra on my own as much as I hate to admit it.

I saw Ward bend and search one of the dead agents body, he seemed to pick up something round with a pin in it. A grenade, this ought to be fun. He pulled the pin out and chucked it at a wall, pushing me back and covering my ears. I went to push his hands off my ears but jumped at the sound of the bang coming from the side of us. He let go then took my hand, running through the smoke and the rubble escaping through the hole in the wall he had just made.

"What now, smart-" I groaned at the hot, burning sensation radiating from my leg. I screamed out as I fell to the floor making Ward turn quickly and shooting through the hole in the wall. I glanced at my leg through blurred eyes as I saw blood ooze from my leg. I gently rolled my trousers up to see blood covering my leg and a hole which it was the source of the blood.

The gunshots stopped and I was suddenly scooped up, which caused more pain making me curse involuntarily and whimper. Ward began running with me, sparing a partial glance the bullet wound.

"Try and put pressure on it. We need to keep moving until we're safe enough to treat it" He shouted and I nodded, pushing my hands on it which caused more pain and tears.

Ward began running to a car, swiftly opening it and carefully placing me in the passenger's seat. He slid over the bonnet of the car and chucked himself into the driver's seat, hotwiring the car before speeding off.

"M-My leg!" I shouted, feeling like I could pass out any second from the pain. I've never experienced a gunshot wound before and I never want to again.

"You'll be fine, it's only in your leg. You're lucky, it's seemed to have missed your major blood vessels" He said confidently but my leg was killing me.

"It's alright for you to say that, you're not the one who's been bloody shot!" I shouted and he swerved right, looking in the rear view mirror.

"I've been shot many times before Jess, I know when it's serious" He told me trying to hold a proud smile.

"I prefer it if I was shot in the head, at least then I'd be dead and it wouldn't hurt!"

"I wouldn't prefer that" He said blankly. "It seems that they're not following us but we need to keep moving. We need to go to a safe house where they won't find us"

"I need to go to a bloody hospital not a safe house!" I frowned at him and he looked at me emotionless

"Like I said, we need to go to a safe house where they can't find us. They'll find you at the hospital and kill you on the spot"

"Just take me back to Shield, Jemma will patch me up and I'll be as good as new. I'll come back I promise" I smiled through the pain but Ward seemed to focus on the road to notice it.

"You won't be safe there. The only way I truly know you're safe is when you're with me and I have my eye on you"

"Oh yeah, it looks that way. Look at my bloody leg!" I shouted, my hands were covered in my own blood and it was spilling out on the car seat.

"Well" he turned to me smiling slightly, "I didn't have my eye on you then. I take my eye off you for one second and you get shot" He shrugged and I wanted to get a gun and shoot him so he'd be in this pain as well.

"I haven't been safe since the day my parents died, which is funnily enough is when you come into my life" I spat.

"Get some rest" Ward ordered me and I rolled my eyes. He couldn't defend himself when he knew what I said was true. He knew that everything that has happened so far was because of him. Revenge consumed him and lead him here, dragging me with him in the process. Now we have both Shield and Hydra after us, it's just whoever gets to us first that worries me.
