Book 1 is set in the year 2014 - even though I started the entire thing on March 25th, 2015 - because of how I wanted the plot to play out. I needed Smoke's birthday on a Tuesday and I just didn't want to change her birthday. Once I set the date, I never change it. The age after the date is how old they are when Book 1 started.
