Chapter 9

A few days later you were back home and being debriefed for a mission. You were pretty nervous because this wasn't any regular mission. You would be infiltrating one of the largest hydra bases so far. You would be put into pairs and sent towards the base by foot. You got put with Steve and Bucky got put with Natasha, Sam and Clint got put together and Bruce,Tony and Thor would all be traveling as a bigger group. With the equipment needed to hack into the mainframe. Everyone was about to go get ready when Steve said "wait can I switch with Bucky?! Cause Natasha and I have been on plenty of missions together and we've been a good team! I think it would be the most effective combination!" He practically threw up all those words, and you were curious as to why he saw it so important to make that change, but you figured he was just nervous for the mission and wanted to be with a partner that he would be successful with. Tony let him switch and was fine with it until he realized that you and Bucky would be partners. You could see the intensity grow in his eyes as Bucky walked over to you. He smiled and pulled you into a hug "so I guess you're stuck with me (y/n)!" he joked. "Oh darn!" You said sarcastically.

You finished packing your duffel and prepping for the mission. You headed to Bucky's room to see if he was ready so you could go pick up your tent from Bruce. You knocked and there was no answer. You shouted "Bucky we have to go!" But there was still no answer. So you figured he had his headphones in again and walked in. "Come on we ha-" you stopped dead in your tracks. There he was was headphones in, dancing, naked. You were about to turn to leave when he saw you and tore out his headphones. You ran out and yelled "sorry!". You quickly walked down the hall before you heard "wait (y/n)!" You turned and saw that the voice belonged to Bucky, who was still naked peeking out of the doorway. "It's okay! You didn't know!" He continued. "I'll go get dressed and we can go grab our tent." He said trying to calm you down and make the situation less awkward. He closed the door and you sunk down against the wall. God he was perfectly sculpted everywhere. You died a little just thinking about it. He came back out dressed with his bag and weapons. And the two of you went to go pick up the tent. Once you got the tent you met the others to get onto the quintet that would drop you off at your first checkpoint. The two of you were giving your assignment and you were dropped in the woods.

You and Bucky had been walking for a few hours now and you were getting tired. "Hey (y/n)" Bucky said softly. "Yeah buck?" You replied and smiled up at him. He stopped walking and said "it's getting a little dark and we should start looking for a good place to pitch the tent." "Ok, I'm pretty worn out anyways!" You replied. The two of you walked a little more and found a small area between the tress. Bucky pitched the tent while you started to unroll the sleeping bags. But when you looked in the bag, there was only one. "Hey buck!" You called. He looked up from his work. "We only have one sleeping bag!" You said and made a confused face. "Oh well it's gonna be below freezing tonight! We'll have to share or we're gonna freeze." He said bluntly.

The two of you were in the tent sitting and talking. He was telling you stories about his missions back when he was in the army, and you were telling him about what it was like growing up in the stark household and how your dad raised you all by himself. You yawned and checked your watch, not realizing how late it was. "We should probably get to sleep it's getting late" you said. He started taking his coat off and his boots and his pants, then he crawled into the sleeping bag. You took off your outer layer as well and mentally cursed yourself for not wearing a bra underneath your shirt. You crawled In the sleeping bag and tried to get comfortable without making the situation more uncomfortable. You tried facing away from him but then you would be spooning so you turned to face him and had no other choice but to lean your head on his chest, cause it was his chest or his neck and collarbone. You were still really cold and shivering, so he pulled you into a hug and rubbed his hands on your back and arms to warm you up. You naturally cuddled in to his warmth and he buried his face in your hair. You felt him smell your hair and he started running his fingers through it. Then something unexpected happened. He kissed the top of your head. You were shocked and so was he. His hands froze and he pulled his face away. You looked up at him and he still had wide eyes. You knew this mission was gonna be long.
