Remember (AU Karkat X Terezi Humanstuck)

Chapter 1: Yellow Rose

"Roar! I am a mighty dragon out to get you!" She stomped around the playground. The little girl started chasing another child who had been peacefully sitting by a tree.

"Noooo I don't want to get eaten!" He shrieked in a mad panick leaping up and running to the climbing frame.

"Roar!" She yelled with even more might glad that someone was joining in on her game. She seemed to almost tower over the boy with her arms stretched out like claws. 

Using his short legs he had managed to reach the colourful climbing frame before her. He hugged it like his life depended on it. The girl started giggling when she saw his scrunched up face. Hearing the giggling he peaked one eye open. The blinding light from the sun stunned him before he gained focus. In front of him was a girl roughly his size but possibly smaller with short choppy hair. She was beaming as she laughed at his frightened demeanour.

"You're not a dragon!" He pouted still holding onto the pole. His cheeks flushed with embarrassment as he glanced down hoping his messy hair would cover his eyes.

"You thought I was a real dragon?" She gasped. He responded by looking away from her still flushed. "Wow no one has ever believed I'm a dragon!" Her eyes seemed to almost gleam with happiness.

"...you're so weird" he muttered.

"I'm going to be the best dragon ever" she continued puffing her chest up in pride. "Hey what's your name anyways?"

"Why do you want to know?" Still refusing to meet her eyes. He continued to pout which made the girl smile even more.

"Tell me!"

"No"

"Tell me!"

"No"

"Pleeeeeeease! Pretty please with a cherry on top!"

"Urgh fine I'm Karkat" he glared at her. She continued to smile as if met with an angry little kitten batting it's paws at her.

"Well I'm Terezi" she then cleared her throat and said "Because I am the bestest mightiest dragony-est dragon here I will not eat you, because you told me your name, Karkat the crab"

"Why am I the crab?!" He said in indignity.

"Because you're so angry" she smirked watching him grow red again. "And also because you're red all the time"

"I am not red!"

"Don't worry I think red is a good look on you at least that's what Kan Kan tells me"

Karkat gave her a confused look as he tried to understand what she said. Is this girl complimenting me or insulting me?  Karkat honestly didn't know how to feel about this encounter. He had never met this crazy girl before. Dark haired and bright faced she had begun to explain the differences between how red looked on boys and girls.

"Roar!" Terezi shouted.

"What do you want?" He said annoyed. Today was suppose to be like any other day but lately something no someone had been constantly bothering him.

"Why aren't you scared?" She replied with her own question. He sat up so he could look at her face properly. They were under the trees where they first met. The day was colder than before so Terezi was wearing a scarlet scarf. She hadn't seemed to have put it on right, for breaktime, so half of it was fluttering in the breeze or maybe it was too long. Not bothering to wear her woolly coat she had rushed to play/scare her friend again but was surprised with the reaction.

"You can't sneak up on me again" Karkat proudly said.

"Do you want to play Dragons again?"

"I don't want to play with a girl"

"Why not?" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"Because"

"That's not a proper answer" she crossed her arms. "Is it because I chase you around? You can be the scary dragon if you want" Terezi said crouching down beside him.

"I don't want to play" he turned his head away from her.

"Why not?"

"You're a girl"

"What's wrong with that?"

"...boys don't play with girls"

"I chased you around so that counts as playing. Ha!"

"Just leave me alone"

Before Terezi could reply a group of boys passed making kissing sounds at them. A couple of them became silent when Terezi gave them a monstrous looking glare while making a motion of slitting a throat.

"I get it" she said quietly looking at Karkat who was still refusing to look at her. "You get made fun of" sighing she left him alone. Karkat had moved so his head was in his knees. 

It was surprisingly an uneventful break time. The dark haired girl had gone to play with her other friends leaving him alone by himself again. Usually he would play with Sollux or Tavros but both were in the green room. They had special needs which meant he didn't get to see them too often. He sighed. I wish my friends were here so I could play something. Dragons sound fun but Terezi is a girl. I don't want to be laughed at again. I'm so bored. He mercilessly tore the petals off of an unfortunate daisy.

'I'll play with her. I'll play with her not. I'll play with her. I'll play with her not.' He dreaded as he realised there was one petal left. "I'll play with her" Stupid daisy.

He slowly walked up to where the girl usually played which was around the climbing frame. She was currently chasing another smaller girl. She wore blue mittens with little paw prints on them and noticeably had many brown freckles across her face.

"Eeeeeeck! The tiny kitten just wants to play with the mighty dragon!" She shrieked leaping up with cat like grace over the many bars.

"Roar! The mighty dragon wants to eat tiny kitten!" Terezi pretended to swipe at the smaller girls feet as she was climbing across the top. "The tiny kitten is hiding in a tree again?"

"No it's a dark dark cave"

"Ok! I'm gonna get you tiny kitten" the young libra jumped up and tried to poke her between the bars.

"Um...hey?" Karkat cautiously walked up to the hyper girl. "Hey!" He said louder this time as she didn't seem to notice. The other girl looked at him curiously and then whipped her head around as soon as she was caught staring.

"Oh hey it's angry crab. What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to play"

She raised her eyebrow and then smirked. "Play what?"

"You know the game"

"What game?" She asked purposely teasing him. "I don't remember it."

"The one you were talking about a few days ago"

"Hmmm..." She placed a finger to her lip mimicking something her mother would do frequently. "Refresh my memory please" she smirked at his irked face.

He sent a quick glare before remembering why he was there in the first place.

"I've come to play that stupid game...Dragons" he pouted.

"Neppy do you mind if Karkles joins?" She shouted at the other girl who was still looking away.

"Um...I-I don't mind."

"Just one thing first" Karkat said crossing his arms.

"What?"

"I'm not an angry crab"

A/N: 

What's that? I'm alive? I suppose I am. This was fun to write. If anyone is wondering why they are acting differently it's because they're children and nothing bad has happened to them. Also small challenge try to figure out what the chapter names mean ; P
