Its been almost a year since I've went out with him. But these past months he's been avoiding me. No calls, no texts, and just no interactions at all. I wonder, does he still love me?

It all happened on that day when Hide brought Kaneki to that cafe. I think it was called Anteiku. Anyways, Kaneki had to talk to a lady there because a friend of Hide's likes her. And since then...I haven't seen him.

Looking at our previous conversations, which was two months ago, I felt an unbearable loneliness.

Kaneki: I'm sorry, I have been busy lately.

(F/n): what do you mean? It's been a month already

Kaneki: its hard to explain...

(F/n): did something happen?

Kaneki typing....

.....

I remembered that last part the most.

Sighing, I put my phone back into my pocket and went to my university. Oh yeah, Kaneki doesn't even attend this place anymore. It felt like he had completely left me.

Sighing again, heavier this time, I could see my breath in the air. Come to think of it, we're about to enter winter now. In just a couple weeks, it'll be his birthday.

I rubbed my hands together to warm it up. Taking a step, I entered the university grounds. In a instant, my friends saw me and crowded around me. My two best friends.

"(F/n), how you been?" Aiko smiled.

I smiled faintly.

"Don't tell me, you're still not over kaneki?" Mimi said, concerned.

"Mm-mm." I shook my head."I'm alright. This'll take some time, thats all."

Maybe it won't just take some time. Maybe this unpleasant feeling will go on forever.

A wind blew and my hair covered my face. Struggling to move my hair away, I thought I caught a glimpse of him.

White hair...

He disappeared from my sight immediately. Maybe he went behind the building? Feeling impatient, I ran.

**

There was no one there...

**

I was on my way home, it was already late at night. If it weren't for the upperclassmen dumping all the cleaning duty onto me, I would've been home hours ago.

*clink*

What was that noise?

I stopped in my footsteps and listened. It took a while for the sound to come out again. I was starting to get creeped out and tried to hurry home. When I passed by a alleyway, I felt a familiar presence.

The alleyway was dark. I could barely see a thing. But there was defiantly something there. Gulping, I took a step forward. The shadow appeared to have moved.

The moonlight then shone through the alleyway. What I saw shook me.

Grey white hair, smooth as silk, the black eye, red pupil. But what stood out to me the most other than his change of look was the scene. Blood was splattered everywhere.

"Ka...neki?" I said.

"Ah ah, I really didn't want you to see this." Kaneki sighed.

"W..What's going on?" I asked."H-Hey..."

"I know what you're probably thin-"

"Are you alright?!?" I grabbed his bleeding arm.

What has he been up to? And what's with this getup? All this blood? This doesn't suit Kaneki at all. He was such a innocent boy just months before. Just...what in the world happened??

"Heh...hahah.." He laughed faintly."I see you're still the same as ever."

"Huh?"

"Thats a relief." He smiled sadly.

Seeing him like this, I wanted to cry. I felt the tears burning on the edges of my eyes, but I held it in.

"I'll treat first aide to you at my place." I said."Come on."

"Are you sure you don't want to question me?" He said with no emotions.

"...."

I looked at the scene once more. There were two people on the ground, blood spilling out from their guts. The stench was horrible. I noticed that one of them was missing an arm.

"I'll take my leave now." Kaneki started to walk away.

"W-Wait!" I said.

He turned around to face me. His expression held nothing but a deep sadness.

"It was nice to see you." He muttered.

Just before he could get away, I grabbed him tight.

"I'm not letting you get away this time!" I said.

He grabbed my wrist; it was a tight grip.

"I don't want to cause any trouble.." He said.

Why?

"Don't cry." He wiped my tears away.

I slapped his hand away.

"Why did you leave without a trace?" I said."That was so irresponsible of you! I was so worried!"

"...I didn't want you to know." He muttered.

"I don't care!" I shouted."It doesn't matter to me. In fact, I already know now. You're a half ghoul..."

"...."

"I don't know what being one feels like and what has happened these past several months, but..it....it must have been hard." I said."But...I want you back!"

Kaneki made this sad expression on his face once more and looked away. He wouldn't say anything. I could sense that he has went through something excruciating.

In an instant, he had disappeared yet again. I knelt down onto my knees and sobbed a bit.

It was nice to see him again...I suppose. I now know the reason why he had disappeared.

-The Next Day-

Police gathered at the murder scene. They questioned me, since someone had seen me around the area last night.

I didn't really give any informations. Only vague answers like, I saw someone, but they ran away before I could get a look.

I looked up at the sky. I sighed again, my breath visible in the air.

I wonder when will be the next time I see him again?

"Happy birthday, Kaneki." I mumbled.

**Years later

I had landed a job in a fast food restaurant. I hadn't really gotten into any programs to shape my future.

At night, I turned the sign over to closed. I let out my breath. It was winter again. Walking, I looked on ahead. It was real quiet, I could only hear the sounds of cars and other vehicles rushing by. And the chatters and ringings of others and their phones.

At a red light, I stopped. I looked down at my shoe, it was covered in snow. I suppose winter came early this year.

Its been fifteen minutes and I was close to my apartment now. I felt someone stop in front of me. I looked up. My eyes sparkled for the first time in so long.

It was...Kaneki.
