Taylor's P.O.V.Back and forth, I pace through the fully lighted cabin. At this point, I don't care if Clay is upset with me for outing us to Justin and Selena. Clay needs to know I'm here if he plans on returning. Plus, I'm sure Justin and Selena will be walking back to their cabin at this point. I'm seriously hoping that Fitch pulled that car off to the side of the road when he discovered that the breaks weren't working. Through the entire cabin, I'm walking just to look out every window.
The whole time, I ran down the road. My feet have plenty of blisters and they're sore, but I kept running through the pain to keep up with Clay. At one point, he purposely went slower. Then he sped off into the night. Luckily, he did this when we were close to the cabin. Through the window, I stare, hoping that I'll see the headlights of the car soon.
"C'mon Clay," I beg, hoping that he'll pop up out of nowhere.
Just then I get a text. With my phone in the kitchen of the cabin, I dart over there as fast as possible. When I pick up my phone to see who texted, my hopes are shot down. It isn't Clay. In fact, it isn't a number in my contacts. However, I read the first part of the message and I was ecstatic to see that they identified them self. It wasn't Clay, but I'll take the next best thing; Young Town.
Hey, Taylor, this is Theler. (AKA as Young Town) I'm sorry to text you unannounced. Also, my apologies about the time. I know I could google California time, but I'm a little preoccupied with worrying at the moment. It's just you're the only person I could think of contacting and my brother had your number sticky noted to the fridge.
'Clay has my number on his fridge?' I think, a little more on the flattered side. I never even wrote my number down for him; I just put it straight on his phone. So he wrote it down himself and stuck it there. Maybe he wanted Young Town to find it.
I know you're in Yosemite with him and I'm really worried about him. I told my dad about his situation and he didn't care too much. He's too worried about his business right now. Well, in his defense, he doesn't really care about us anyways. Sure, he'll pay for things for us, but you can't buy care. Anyways, you always seem to be around him, so I'm assuming you care about him. Did he tell you about his situation?
'Oh my gosh. Young Town is referring to that text I saw earlier,' I realize. My guess is that he's been up all this time worried about Clay and whatever the situation is. Rather than texting back, I decide to call since this seems rather urgent.
The phone couldn't even complete a ring, due to how fast Young Town picked up his phone. He laughs nervously, "Taylor, I know you're a little older than me, but there is this thing known as texting." I roll my eyes at his comment.
"You and I both know how important this is," I say, raising my voice.
"So he told you?" He asks.
"No, but I was hoping that you would," I say with my voice soft.
He sighs then begins to tell, "I think that I shouldn't be the one to tell you. Clay would kill me. I promised not to tell. This is Clay's business and sure I'm a part of it, but it isn't my news to tell."
"Young Town, stop stalling. I'm worried about your brother; there's something off about him. He's acting far more emotional than usual. If you know something that I don't, you have to tell me, please," I'm demanding to know the truth.
He sighs then goes on to reveal the secret situation that Clay is in.
***
Not allowing him to explain the situation further, I say, stunned by what he had to say, "I have to go." With that, I end the call and slip my phone into the back pocket of my jeans. Not hesitating, I run over to the front of the cabin to stare out the living room window. This has the best view of Justin and Selena's cabin, along with the road that leads out to the main road. If Clay is going to show up anytime soon, I'll see his car here.
