I sit between Beatrice and my father as we wait for the ceremony to start. I don't pay attention until my name is called.

"Kaitlyn Daniels." Marcus Eaton, our faction leader, says. I sigh and nod at my dad before heading down to Marcus. I accept the knife he holds out to me and I take a breath as I look at the five bowls. Water for Erudite, Dirt for Amity, Broken Glass for Candor, Grey Stones for Abnegation, and Burning Coals for Dauntless. I glance at my father and the Prior's one last time before cutting my left palm and letting my blood drip onto burning coals. Everything slows down around me as I walk towards Dauntless. The sounds of clapping are drowned out by my heartbeat blasting in my head. I sit down with a bandaid on my cut.

"Megan Daniels." Marcus says. I look up to see my cousin from Candor. She takes the knife and immediately chooses Dauntless. I stare at her in shock as she plops down in the seat next to me.

"Hey baby, Cuz." Megan greets me. I narrow my eyes at her.

"I'm older than you!" I exclaim.

"When were you born?" Megan asks.

"January 10th." I reply. She pouts.

"Damnit. Mine is May 1st." Megan whines. I grin.

"Ha. Hi baby, Cuz." I tease. She punches me in the arm.

"Ow! Come on!" I laugh. She grins at me.

"We'll get along fine, Skinny." Megan laughs. I roll my eyes and we tease each other throughout the rest of the Choosing Ceremony...well almost...until a certain Candor sits on my other side and winks at me.

"Hey there, Feisty." Candor guy greets me. I groan.

"You know Peter Hayes?" Megan asks.

"Oh yeah. We're great pals. I kicked him in the shin yesterday." I reply sarcastically. Peter grins at me.

"Feisty and sarcastic. Niiiiccceeee." Peter says. I punch him in the arm as hard as I can.

"Ow!" He whines. I roll my eyes and go back to talking to Megan.

"Caleb Prior!" Marcus says. I watch as Caleb drops his blood in Erudite's bowl. I frown. How did I not know this? Caleb glances at me and I look away from him.

"Beatrice Prior!" Marcus says. Beatrice takes the knife and walks over to Abnegation. But then let's her blood drip into Dauntless. I wish Peter wasn't sitting next to me so Beatrice could sit here. But whatever.

--Time Lapse To After The Choosing Ceremony--

I follow the Dauntless and transfers to the train tracks.

"What're we supposed to do here?" I ask and cross my arms in frustration. Peter chuckles.

"Feisty, sarcastic, and impatient. You keep getting better and better." Peter says. I roll my eyes at him. A train starts to fly passed us and I notice Peter isn't beside me. They're jumping on the train!? Crap! I take off running and dive into a door and end up knocking someone to the ground. I groan and look down to see that I'm on top of Peter.

"Get the fuck off." I grumble.

"Hmm. I believe it's the other way around, Feisty." Peter says with a smirk. I glare at him.

"Oh piss off." I snap and get off him. I brush myself off and sigh. He stands up and winks at me. Megan looks at me.

"Well if we had to jump on the train. How do you think we'll have to get off?" She points out. I groan.

"I don't waaannnnaaa." I whine. Soon enough people start jumping off the train and onto a roof. Peter opens the door again.

"Ladies first." Peter says. Megan jumps off but I just cross my arms.

"No." I say bluntly. He doesn't say anything else before picking me up bridal style and jumping off the train.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!?" I scream at him once I stand up. He rolls his eyes.

"I just helped you not be Factionless. You're welcome." Peter says and walks over to the group of initiates. I glare at him before joining the others as well. A man with pretty many tattoos and piercings stands at the edge of the roof.

"Gather 'round initiates! I'm Eric, one of Dauntless's leaders!" The man exclaims. He goes to give, what most likely is, a very long speech. So I cut him off.

"Are we gonna jump off the roof and into whatever the hell is down there or what?" I ask. Eric raises an eyebrow at me.

"Alright. You're pretty straightforward. Who wants to go first?" Eric asks. I look around for a second and go to volunteer, but Beatrice beats me to it.

"Me." She says and goes up to the edge. She takes off her grey cardigan and tosses it to the side.

"Yeah Stiff take it off!" Peter cheers. I shake my head at him.

"Put it back on." Peter mumbles. I punch him in the arm again.

"Ow!" He whines. I look at Tris and see her just staring down into the void.

"Any day now initiate." Eric says. She doesn't move.

"Oh for crying out loud." I say and move forward to push her off. But she jumps just as I reach her and I begin to fall off. My legs are just barely hanging onto the wall.

"Well that was easy." Eric says.

"That's what she said." Peter and Megan say in unison. Suddenly I'm pushed off the wall and I look up to see Megan and Peter grinning at me.

"Screw you!" I yell at them.

"That's what she said!" Peter calls back. My back slams into a net and I bounce back into the air. A tall man with tannish skin helps me off the net.

"What's your name? You can change it if you want." He says.

"Lily." I reply, picturing my favorite flower. He nods.

"Well Lily. Welcome to Dauntless. My name's Four and I will be your instructor for your initiation." The man says. I grin.

"It's good to be here." I reply before joining Beatrice.

"Did you change your name?" I ask. She nods.

"It's Tris now. How about you?" She asks.

"Lily." I reply. We grin at each other. I already like it here.
