❝this is why you should never, ever get your hopes up. this is why you should see the glass as half empty. so when the whole thing spills, you aren't as devastated.❞

"DO YOU EVER think about how ironic it is that we're the kids our parents warned us about?" Kingston laughed slightly as he took a sip of his coffee

"DO YOU EVER think about how ironic it is that we're the kids our parents warned us about?" Kingston laughed slightly as he took a sip of his coffee.

A hint of amusement sprawled its way onto my face as I opened the window, letting the fresh morning air flow throughout the house. "Oh, you know they knew I'd turn out this way anyways."

He laughed. "Yeah, you were probably a troublemaker from the start."

I nodded my head and leaned against the counter, tipping the mug upwards and letting the hot coffee travel down my throat. "How about you?"

He shrugged. "I was in a foster home for quite some time, but around the age of thirteen was when I finally got to have a "family." I wasn't a fan of them, of course. I wanted to meet my real family, so I snuck out a lot. Once I was eighteen, I ran off and came to find you."

I frowned. "Were they mean to you?"

He scoffed. "They treated me like I was some disgusting rat."

I shook my head, feeling anger crawl through my skin. "Well, you're with me now, so that's all that matters."

He gave me a big smile and pulled me into a hug. "I'm glad I have you."

I rolled my eyes and pulled away. "Yeah, yeah."

He chuckled. "You don't like hugs, do you?"

I laughed. "Ask the gang. They'll tell you."

"BUCK, AM I the only person you have a soft spot for?" I questioned as I watched his lips curve upwards into a smile.
