The First Few Days

The hospital didn't let Ginny and baby James out until two days after the birth. Harry and Ginny had asked the rest of the family to leave them alone with their newborn son for the first few days so they could adjust. The others weren't happy about it, but they agreed.

Harry and Ginny brought James home on Wednesday the 22nd. Harry moved the cradle into their bedroom and they both put James down for a nap. Once he was asleep, they set to work. They used several simple color-changing charms to make the color scheme of the room more male-oriented. The blinding white turned into blues, greens, and yellows. There were decorations everywhere since the rest of the family decided to send a dozen owls over to the house with gifts. When the room had the stamp of approval from Ginny, they moved the cradle back into the nursery. The day had gone by and it was time for baby James to go to sleep.

It took nearly half and hour for the new parents to get their very energetic son to fall asleep. Once he was asleep, they went to their room and collapsed onto their own bed, exhausted.

The next few days after that were still tiring for the new parents. The Holyhead Harpies had given Ginny a maternity leave for the next 10 months and Harry had managed to get the rest of the week off work.

The baby was a very energetic and loud little boy. He would wake them up in the middle of the night for a changing, he definitely kept them on their toes all day. It would take them half and hour to put him down and he would cry and cry and cry if he didn't get his meals on time. Harry and Ginny would go to bed each night with no energy left whatsoever.

But for them, it was all worth it. Harry would make bright colors burst out the end of his wand and Ginny discovered that he loved to hear stories. The easiest way to calm him down was to read him a story from the 'Tales of Beedle the Bard'. When they made funny faces, he would laugh a laugh so pure and beautiful that it made them smile each time. Every time they would hold him, he would grab one of their fingers in his tiny little fists. It was all worth the tiredness at the end of the day. The thing that made Harry smile the most though, was when he would show his son a picture of Lily and James, Harry's parents, and little James would smile or laugh.

On Sunday, the last day that Harry would be able to stay home all day, they allowed the proud grandparents to come over. Mrs. Weasley had brought over a small dinner so that Ginny wouldn't have to cook that night and Mr. Weasley had bought a stuffed bear at a muggle toy shop. James didn't let go of the bear's paw all night. The Weasley's couldn't take their eyes off their first grandson. He had the beginnings of the same dark messy hair that Harry had, but his chocolate brown eyes were all Ginny's. They thought that he was the perfect combination of his two parents. They were so proud of their daughter and son-in-law. They praised how well they seemed to be doing, despite this being their first time.

"Well I hope it continues. Harry has to go back to the Auror office tomorrow." said Ginny with a sigh. "Oh no." said Mrs. Weasley, who had still not let go of her sleeping grandson, who still had the bear with him. "So soon? You can't get another week?" asked Mr. Weasley. Harry looked at them sadly. "No. The department is very busy right now. A representative is coming from France to discuss the security for their players for the Quidditch World Cup next year." he explained. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley left about an hour after Ginny had put James down for bed. "Goodbye dear." said Mrs. Weasley as she hugged her daughter and Harry. "Good luck with the French representative Harry." said Mr. Weasley as he shook Harry's hand.

After their guests had left, the Potters went to their room and, as per usual, collapsed onto their bed.

Alrighty everybody! I think I will do one or two more parts in this story before moving on to my next one. How will Ginny do by herself with James? We shall see. Remember: leave comments, follow my page, and keep on reading! Thanks you guys!
