We hadn't seen any forms of life since we left the house. There weren't any birds singing like they do every morning. An eery silence was swept over the small neighborhood throughout the night. The only sounds that could be heard were our footsteps and the slight breeze blowing through the trees. Our silent walk to the closest supermarket was soon over as the store soon started to appear over the top of the hill we were walking up.
"There it is. Just over this hill. Let's go." He said quickening his pace.
As we neared the top of the hill we heard the shuffling of feet, a lot of them.
"Avery wait, do you hear that?" I said grabbing his shoulder to stop him.
"Ya its sounds like people walking around. What's so bad about that?"
"What if they're not people? We need to be careful."
We looked over to the parking lot in front of us.
"Oh no."
As soon as I said the "people" in the parking lot looked at us.
They had seen us and were slowly starting to advance toward us.
"Shay we need to go, NOW!" He grabbed my hand turning to run back down the hill. Suddenly stopping at the sight of 5 more, close enough to grab at us.
"Agh! Run! We need to find another way! Come on!" I screamed as I pulled Avery along behind me heading for the back door to the market. The things closing in on us looking like a blood thirsty mob.
I threw open the door to be greeted by another one. Avery plunged his knife into the side of its head and we ran inside.
"We need to block this door." He said grabbing his knife.
The angry beasts started to open the door. I noticed a bunch of boxes stacked on pallets by the door. Avery too busy trying to keep the door closed couldn't help me with the boxes. I started to grab the boxes one by one and stacking them in front of the door. The boxes were extremely heavy so they should be able to hold the door closed. Avery stepped forward not wanting to be by the door as hungry fists slammed against it.
Trying to catch my breathe I slumped down to the floor. My hands trembling and finally catching my breathe I spoke up.
"How will we get out, now that those things are out there?" I asked motioning towards the door.
"I guess we'll be setting up camp here for the night."
"Oh great, at least we have plenty of food and drinks." I said sarcastically.
We stood and headed out to the semi-dark market, still being slightly lit by the setting sun. The isles of goods still standing. The constant banging of the monsters outside moved to surround the building. Without saying a single word we walked around the store finding a good spot to set up the folding chairs we had found. As we sat down both of our stomachs growled. Avery went around the store grabbing food and bringing it back. It looked like a feast fit for a king. After eating our meal, we found some sleeping bags and set them up. We grew tired as the darkness of night engulfed the entire store including the inside. I slipped off into a deep sleep not bothering to see if Avery was asleep yet.~Authors Note~
Hey everyone I hope you enjoyed this chapter. It took awhile to figure this one out. I feel good about this one though. Things are already going down hill and it's only the second day of the Apocalypse. Thank you for reading this story. I'll write again soon. High five! Buh-bye.
