I had a hard time falling asleep that night. I had several nightmares, but I never remembered them. Finally, at around 4:30am, I sat up in my bed.
Wolfie's bed next to me was empty. I wondered where she went...
I swung my legs over the bed and clutched the edge of the bed. My head swam with figures of half formed nightmare men. I rub my eyes and stand up. I slip out of my black fuzzy pajama pants and white tank top and went into the bathroom. Wolfie and I each had our own full bathrooms.
I filled an ivory bathtub with steaming hot water and tied my hair up into a messy bun. I lay back in the tub and let the calm warmth envelope me.
The next thing I knew, I heard a large thump outside in the bedroom. I hadn't realized I was sleeping.
"Kitty?!" I heard Wolfie call for me.
"I'm in the bathroom!" I shouted back.
I got out of the tub and wrapped a towel around myself. I open the door to see Wolfie pacing between our beds and biting her nails. Her hair is a mess and she only has one sock on, I feel like if it was possible her skirt would be on backwards.
"What's the matter, Wolfie?"
Wolfie's head jerked up. When she saw me she looked relieved, "Nothing, it's nothing."
"But you sounded so concerned," I said.
Wolfie waved it away and shoved my uniform in my free arm. It was all I could do to not lose my towel. I closed the door and got dressed.
Wolfie looked more put together by the time I exited the bathroom. I was offered a room separate from her, but neither of us were very comfortable alone.
I bundled up mine and Wolfie's shower towels and brought them down to the laundry room. I handed them to a maid working there.
A buzzing went off near the door. A light was on over a small label that read "Master Cole Daitan". That meant I was needed.
I walked briskly up to Cole's room. I knocked.
"Come in," Cole sounded as tired as I still felt.
I twisted the knob and entered the room.
"What can I get for you, sir?" I bowed.
"There's a slip of paper on my desk, bring it down to the kitchen. My dirty clothes are also in a hamper in my bathroom."
I nodded and did as I was told. I found the note and folded it up in the pocket of my apron. I picked up the hamper from the bathroom and set out a few towels for Cole's shower.
I almost bumped into Cole as I was leaving, "I'm sorry, sir!"
"It's fine, it was my fault," Cole insisted.
He patted me on the head and went into the bathroom. I hurried away before he saw me blushing.
The only person who had ever pet my head was my older brother whenever he was joking around.
I gave the clothes to the maid in the laundry room and made my way to the kitchen. The note was a breakfast order.
I cleaned the dining room table until Cole's breakfast was done. Cole was still showering when I brought his breakfast back to his room, so I just set it down on his desk.
I searched the hallway until I found a broom closet and a vacuum to clean Cole's room. After that, I straightened up his room a little. I put books back on shelves and made the bed. I also cleaned the room where he kept his cosplay outfits.
One of the pictures had called down somehow and the glass frame had shattered. I put the photo in my pocket and grabbed a broom and the vacuum to clean up the glass.
Cole came out of his bathroom as I was bringing the glass out of the room. He was wearing nothing but a pair of blue jeans and a small towel around his neck. Water glistened on his sculpted body...
"What happened?" Cole's voice ripped my eyes from his glorified abs.
I blinked, "A picture frame fell and shattered."
I handed Cole the photo, it was him and his friend in their Naruto cosplays, and threw the glass away.
Cole frowned, "I guess I'll have to order a new frame. I must have bumped it last night."
"Is there anything else I can do for you, sir?"
"Not right now, but I'll ring if I need you."
I bowed again and left.
The rest of the day was uneventful. I ran a few more orders of food for Cole and dusted Master Daitan's rather large sitting room with Wolfie.
"Oh! Master Daitan has a harpsichord!" I noticed.
"A harpsi-what?" Wolfie asked.
I started dusting off the top of it.
"Oh, that thing," Wolfie continued dusting off a bookshelf, "I always just thought it was a mini piano."
"I wonder if Master Daitan knows how to play it or if it's just for show?" I thought allowed.
Wolfie shrugged, "I wouldn't know."
That night, I found out I had three missed calls from my older brother and an endless number of texts. The most recent one demanded I video chat him as soon as possible.
I did just that.
"Hey, big bro!" I said when he finally answered.
"Hey, Kitten! How are you?"
Leo was two years older than me and looked a lot like my father. He had the same red hair and gray eyes. Leo had always been extremely protective of me ever since we were kids.
"I'm great, I got a job as a maid for some rich guy by the name of Daitan. Well, his son hired me."
Leo tensed, "And how old is this son."
I grinned at my brother's overprotective nature, "It's nothing like that. I just work around the house like the rest of the staff. And Cole is about our age."
Leo reluctantly relaxed, "If you say so... But if he does anything to you, just let me know and I'll come beat his ass."
I laughed, "I know you will. Is Olivia there?"
Olivia was Leo's girlfriend.
Leo ran a hand through his hair, "Not right now, she's still working at the vet's office."
"Well tell her I said hi," Wolfie came into the room, "I gotta go, love you, big bro!"
"I'll do that. Love you too, Kitten."
I ended the voice chat.
"Who was that?" Wolfie asked.
"Just my brother, he likes to look after me a lot."
"He decent?"
I shook my head, "He's taken, sorry."
Wolfie pouted, but only for a second. She handed me a box, "Dinner, eat up."
I thanked her and ate.
