Chapter II

||Sasuke||

"You're back," Neji, our Alpha, said.

"Yeah." I transformed back to my wolf form.

"Where were you?" Naruto asked.

"Somewhere in the woods," I replied.

"No shit. Where were you exactly?"

I ignored him.

"It's dangerous to be out there. People might see your tail," Neji warned.

"Nah, I don't think so." I shrugged. "Although one saw my wolf form..."

Neji widen his eyes. "Someone saw you?"

"Calm down, Neji," I assured. "She hasn't told anyone."

He sat down and exhaled. "That's good."

Suddenly, Lee barged unto our territory and exclaimed,"Itachi-san is -"

"What happened to Aniki?" I asked with uneasiness, my heart pounding against my chest as I wait for his reply. He hesitated.

"He was... Shot by the humans... They found him and... And..." Lee clenched his teeth. I furrowed my eyebrows.

||Sakura||

I'd been wondering about the wolf I'd seen. He didn't attack me, and that was a relief but, the question was, why? Wolves eat human. Wolves hunt for humans. Humans are wolves' preys, wolves are humans' predators.

"Sakura!" Mother ran into my room without knocking. She always does.

"What is it?" I asked.

"A wolf was in the woods! We found one!" She said, her words trembling. I widened my eyes.

"Y-You killed it?" I nervously asked, hoping the wolf wasn't the one I'd seen.

"I didn't. While Kanade was harvesting her crops, she saw a shadow. A wolf's shadow. Then she went to tell her husband about it and they went to hunt for it. Well, after they found it, they shot it."

I gulped. "It... Died?"

"I believe so."

I pursed my lips together. "Why? It didn't do anything to her."

"Why are you suddenly so sympathetic towards them?" Mother questioned.

"Since when we're there a case where wolves eat humans? Isn't it so long ago? You can't say all wolves are bad," I defended. She raised an eyebrow.

"Anyways, Sakura... You can't visit Grandmother anymore. I forbid you to."

"Why?!"

"Because there just might be more wolves around. They are dangerous, Sakura."

"But Mother! Grandmother is unwell! She's old and she can't really take care of herself! What if something happened to her?" I insisted.

"That wouldn't happen. Grandmother is healthy."

"B-But... Grandmother is getting old..."

"Eventually you will too, right? Now get to sleep. It's late." She turned around and walked out of my room. I jumped onto my bed.

The wolf is dead? I thought. I don't understand why everyone made legends about the wolves. They are not that bad...

I jolted up as a light bulb flashed in my mind.

I'll see that for myself! I'll go to the same location tomorrow and find the wolf! Then I'll tell everyone how harmless the wolves are in the woods! And I can also visit Grandmother. Mother will be attending her friend's funeral tomorrow until sundown. So I'll embark in the morning.
