I have to say "thank you" to the new girl. With her here, no one talks about me or bothers me. It's actually like I don't exist which is so much better than what it was before. I could get used to this but I'm not going to get my hopes up.
"Hey, your name is Ciara right?" I hear a sweet voice behind me and turn around to see who it came from. It's her. She's holding a tray full of what looks like fruits with nothing else and smiling that smile that makes me speechless. I stare at her like an idiot, before I remember she asked a question and I nod. "You wouldn't mind if I sat out here with you would you? Everyone else has asked me but I don't really," she starts blushing and it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. "You can sit here, I don't mind." I can barely hear the words leave my mouth when I speak them, but I know she hears them when she sits next to me.
I turn back around to see my laptop still open with my private documents open and I quickly minimize the screens. I hope she didn't see anything. After a couple minutes I turn to her, she's staring at me and I blush before I can look away. What is wrong with me? "I'm Kylie. I'm a senior here and I just turned 17 September 2nd," she says as she holds her hand out to me. When our hands touch I can feel my skin tingle. She has soft hands, I wonder what her skin feels like. I hold her hand for a few seconds before letting go. "M...my name's C...Ciara. I turned 17 July 13th and I'm also a senior," I tell her. She smiles and stares at me. The next thing she says takes me completely by surprise and I laugh so hard my stomach gets sore. "Do you have a boyfriend?" After I stop laughing I shake my head and smile at her, "most definitely not and for many reasons." She's smiles, although I'm not sure why, but it makes me smile too. And lunch ends.
It takes a while for me to get to my class but I make it there in time. There's only one more hour left in this school. When I walk in there's a crowd of people around one desk and I'm curious what's going on but I don't bother to go over there for the chance I may get hit. "My name is Kylie and I'm a senior, that's all you need to know." I hear her sweet voice come from the direction with all the people and realize, she's what all the commotion was about. "Alright, everyone take your seats, this isn't social hour," the teacher says as he walks in.
Of course like every class before this one, there's a getting to know you presentation of yourself. No one really takes these things seriously though, but we all pay attention when it's Kylie's turn.
By the time everyone has introduced themselves class is over and so is school. I make my way out the door and head home. I glance and Kylie and she's staring at me again. Maybe you're just imagining it, no one stares at you like that. I think to myself the entire walk home.
The door is unlocked when I get there and as I suspect, my aunt is asleep on the couch. I take my laptop upstairs to my room and put it to charge at my desk before getting in the shower. Today wasn't too bad, and the new girl, Kylie, she was nice. There was something about her, it made me feel a certain way but I couldn't figure out what it was.
