8. Leonids Shower

Chapter Eight

It's 3 o'clock in the morning, Jenna opened her eyes wide and peaked at the snoring Emma and Lauryne who were sleeping soundlessly. She stayed in her bed for a little while, not wanting to get up from her queen-sized bed. After staying at her comfortable spot for minutes, she got up and tiptoed through the hallway, carefully turning the doorknob of the storeroom. She opened the door with a loud screech that echoes around the house, waking up Lauryne.

"What? Jenna, what are you doing in the middle of the night ? " Lauryne asked as she gives out a big yawn in the middle of the hallway. Her hair is sticking up in every direction on her head and she stretched in her crumpled pyjamas. Jenna mentally shaked her head and smiled at Lauryne's bedhead. Last night Jenna had hit the sack as early as nine o'clock at night while the other two girls were jamming in their music room. Both of them then went to bed at midnight which was past their bedtime. They were both heavy sleeper, so if they wake up it must be a really loud noise or distraction.

"Nothing really, it's the best hours for stars, I'm just going to the redfields for the Leonids shower. Sorry to wake you up. Now go back to sleep." Jenna explained like a big sister she was.

Lauryne put on her 'duh' face and walked back into her room. "Be careful ." She yawned out before climbing up her bed. Jenna immediately grabbed her camera, tripod stand, refract telescope and headed to redfields.

After 30 minutes of driving on the chill and quiet road, she finally reached the paddy field where everyone gathered in the middle with their optical instruments placed on the ground.

Wow, Professionals.

She placed her telescope and camera on the ground like everyone else, all set up and ready. As she waited alone for the Leonid shower, a guy from a distance dropped his telescope on the ground and made a huge racket. He had got everyone's attention. Jenna was a helpful type of person so she ran there and helped him picked up his telescope. Noticing his telescope has a really high power and has up to 150 diameter. A really strong telescope that is, what a pity, it's broken now.

"Thank you miss... uh..." The guy wanted to know Jenna's name.

" Jenna. I can see your telescope is broken, why don't you use mine? I don't really know how to use it anyway. It's my first time. " Jenna insisted him to use her telescope because she had forgotten how to set it up. She needed her help and he needed hers, it's a win-win.

While walking towards Jenna's set up ground, he thanked Jenna once again and told her his name.

"The name is Dane. I'm working at the Perseid's Company as the main observer of the lab. If you're interested you can come to this address on 12 dec for the Gemini shower." Dane handed her his name card and she tucked it in her back pocket.

Jenna raised her brows and gasped with surprise. "You're so lucky!"

Jenna saw his face clearer now as they walked towards the camping zone. He has high-bridged nose and sparkling black eyes. " Well i consider myself very lucky. Not everyone would come across a pretty girl when they break their telescope you know."

Jenna stared at his smile and saw his deep and beautiful dimple. Wow, he is gorgeous. Despite a few pimples on both side of his cheeks, he looks marvellous. " oh...so you're a flirty kind of person. " Jenna giggled.

They shared Jenna's telescope throughout the night and chat till the sun rose. From that moment, they had learned so much things about each other. They enjoyed the meteor shower together and adore the same interest. Jenna hadn't been this happy for a really long time. Looks like Dane has got what it takes to make her smile from the inside.

She hasn't been into anyone or any relationship after her last break up 3 years ago. She resolute adherence to her own ideas about relationships between boys and girls. She believes that having a relationship would only stop her from having fun with friends, no freedom no nothing. It has been 3 years since she dumped her ex-boyfriend and she still holds to her convictions.
