It was early in the morning, Lightningpelt was taking Moonpaw and Silentpaw out to explore the territory with Rosepelt and Frostpaw.
"Could I fight a snake Lightningpelt?," asked Moonpaw
"There would be flying mice before we would see snakes in our territory Moonpaw." Said Lighteningpelt.
"Lighteningpelt?" Asked Silentpaw,"How come Featherstar didn't come with us?"
"I'm afraid she has gotten white cough." Said Lighteningpelt staring at the ground.
The whole group was silent for a moment or two as they walked onto a log to get over a small river.
"You soon won't have to cross this once we teach you to swim." Said Rosepelt
"Really!" Squealed Moonpaw, eager to splash in the water.
After the group crossed the River they came to a large weeping willow tree. Much larger then the one at camp where the elders den was.
"This, my young apprentices, is where all our fallen leaders are buried where they now swim in the rivers of Starclan." said Lighteningpelt solemnly.
"It's beautiful here," said Silentpaw," No wonder they wanted to be buried here, it's so peaceful."
"I agree" said Roselpelt.
"When can we go hunting Rosepelt?" Asked Frostpaw.
"Well you can't catch fish until you know how can you."
"Oh..." Said Frostpaw dumbfounded.
"Don't worry," said Rosepelt," As soon as we finish exploring the territory I'll teach you."
"Ok" said Frostfur
After they explored the rest of the territory they continued walking until they came to a huge water fall with a pond at the bottom.
"This is the best place to fish." Said Lighteningpelt gesturing to the waterfall.
"Fish swim down this waterfall to get to the pond and we catch them before they can get there." Said Lighteningpelt laughing.
"And we are going to teach you how to fish here!" Said Rosepelt.
Suddenly Silentkit started thinking of herself, failing at catching fish and not able to do anything. She wished she could be less shy and more strong like her sister, but all she saw when she looked in her reflection in the water was herself, alone and afraid with no one to understand her.
"Ok paws, I want you to focus carefully on my technique at snatching these fish." Said Rosepelt.
Obviously Moonpaw was the first to race over to the pond by Lighteningpelt and Rosepelt. She leaped over and snatched at a fish, but she missed and fell headfirst into the water.
"That's ok," beamed Lighteningpelt," I didn't expect you to get it right on your first try!"
"Silentkit, why don't you give it a try" laughed Lightenpelt gazing at Moonpaw soaking wet.
Silentkit walked over to the pond, remembering how Rosepelt caught the fish, and snatched at a silver gleam in the water. Surprisingly she caught one and threw it to the ground, biting it's spine, just like Rosepelt, and killing it.
"Well done!" Said Rosepelt staring in awe.
"Wow!" Squealed Frostpaw," I could never be that good, I'm still a lousy kittypet"
"Don't say that mouse brain, you haven't even tried!"
So Frostpaw walked slowly over to the pond, saw a reddish shine in the water, and snatched it with one paw, throwing it to the ground. The fish was violently flopping even though Frostpaw kept snapping at its spine she kept missing.
"It's not working Rosepelt!" Said Frostpaw like a pitiful kit.
"This one is feisty, I don't blame you, here" said Rosepelt pouncing on the fish and digging her claws into its back.
"Well, I think that's enough hunting for today." said Lighteningpelt.
